NO, they went out of business about a year ago. Don't blame the economy or anything like that, it was simple poor management. What was once a great company when Donnie McNeil owned it slowly dissolved from with in. Jimmy White at Circle City got some of the frame jigs and is starting to build frames.
that's sad news , i always thought they made good stuff. i bought from them in the past , but nothing in the last 10+ years. a `35 Ford sedan i built in the 80's had many parts from them. it's hard to imagine a company the made the ch***is for at least several America's Most Beautiful Roadster winners would have a hard time attracting customers
They did make good stuff, like I say, it was a management problem - the guy who bought it about 15 years ago was an engineer, not a business man. Nice guy, just not the right one to run the business.
Hotroddon, Didn't know Don sold the business. I bought some of my ch***is components from SAC many years ago when I built my 40 Coupe. He was very helpful and helped answer my questions. Sorry to hear. Offy 220
If my memory is still sound I believe they were the first to make a reproduction '33/'34 frame. I know of at least 3 Model 40's that would have gone to the crusher if not for their frames. Sad when one of the icons goes under from mismanagement. frank
Wow that's good to know. Their website is still active. I was just looking at it last weekend for 40 ch***is parts.
I know I am replying to an old post BUT, I'm interested in the SAC rear spring kit for '35-'40 Fords---is anyone still making that ?? Bruce
Thanks for the reply Bib, the SAC was similar to the Ch***is Engineering kit but had both spring eyes reversed and the shackle pivot was up in the frame instead of below it. I know I could modify a CE kit but would like to find a SAC so no spring mods would be necessary that would increase cost. (I could do the rear shackle mount)
This is an email I received from SAC. I'll check out Weedeater, I do remember the name from way back. There was Fat Fender Rod Shop, too. Thanks Bib Overalls, RICH B and gearheadbill. I am sorry to report that SAC is out of business. I do have some residual inventory, but not the rear spring kit. Please let me know if you have any other requests for ch***is parts. how about the possibility of someone that has a installed kit doing some reverse engineering of that fine kit and posting up a set of drawings? ???
