Have a chance to pick up a solid old '47 Pontiac Torpedo. It has a three speed manual
tranny and first gear sounds like it could go out any second. It grinds when you take off. Haven't had any good results finding parts for it on the net.
The current owner has a spare out of a '40 model. Does anyone know if it will interchange? It looks like a really quick swap and I'm wondering why he hasn't done it already. thanks!

I'm going to be doing a complete running gear takeout on a '41. I might be able to help you... what do you need?

Chevs of the 40's has a GM interchange book for $10 that covers Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac and Oldsmobile from the late thirties through the early fifties

Hollander is an interchange manual auto wreckers used,
    46-48 direct bolt in,
to use a 40 trans your going to have to use the main drive gear out of your trans according to the book,
You should be able to make it work
