Have a chance to pick up a solid old '47 Pontiac Torpedo. It has a three speed manual tranny and first gear sounds like it could go out any second. It grinds when you take off. Haven't had any good results finding parts for it on the net. The current owner has a spare out of a '40 model. Does anyone know if it will interchange? It looks like a really quick swap and I'm wondering why he hasn't done it already. thanks!
According to the 23rd Hollander (1957) #374 46-48 Pontiac 40-42 Taxi P/6 #59 and#74 fit by switching main drive gears #59 Olds 41-48 6-66, 8-68 #74 Pontiac 40-42
I'm going to be doing a complete running gear takeout on a '41. I might be able to help you... what do you need?
Chevs of the 40's has a GM interchange book for $10 that covers Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac and Oldsmobile from the late thirties through the early fifties
what is the 23rd Hollander? is that an interchange parts manual? where do you get it? Basically at this point I just need to know if a '40 Pontiac tranny will bolt in and work cuz thats what comes with the package as a spare. thanks
Hollander is an interchange manual auto wreckers used, 46-48 direct bolt in, to use a 40 trans your going to have to use the main drive gear out of your trans according to the book, You should be able to make it work
