I'm doing the T Bucket interior. Any thoughts on the 1/8" ABS panels for attaching the upholstery to? Does it warp in the Sun . Would Luan be better?

I've used both... for my $$$, the ABS is great in a car that will get wet from time to time. I've never had an issue with warpage from the sun.

ABS is what I'm going to use in my roadster. Pretty cheap at $32 for a 54"x103" sheet that is .060 thick or $62 for .125 thick. Local plastic shop has in stock, only comes in black.

Ive used the ABS and the Board...i'd go ABS hands down on a car that might see water on the inside..it also seems to be a bit more stable product and easy to work with.

1/8" ABS works great. I just finished making all the panels for my rpu. It is really easy to contour with a heat gun & if you feel like getting tricky you can use a small bottle of map gas to heat it hot enough to mold it around objects, in my case it was a mastercylinder sticking through the floor. (poor man's vacuum mold) My friend that has been doing upolstery since the 50's turned me on to it.

    Thanks mj40,
I missed your post the first go around but it is very helpful. I was wondering how well this stuff glued but it sounds like it uses all the same techniques as using board. The snap idea in there is great as well. I have always hated the wire clips but had not come up with anything better.

    sweet truck by the way.

Thanks to everyone else for the sources. Looks like there is a range of prices. I will check locally as well to try to save the shipping.

ABS is great for interiors. Makes real good door pads. Can be cut with a shear if you have one.

Ok, what's the best thickness? 1/16 or 1/8?
I've got an open car that i'm going to start messing with door panels, and the seat back with compound curves. What would be the best method of adhering the vinyl? Simple spray adhesive? what about foam then vinyl?
Full of questions i know, but i was planning on using luan till i found this thread.
What have you guys used to attach it to the door frame?

I would use the 1/8, regular trim adhesive works very well you can glue vinyl or foam to the ABS. I did the door panels, headliner and the curved areas behind the seats of my 33 2 years ago and it still looks like it did the day I finished it.

    Butch27,

I haven't had a chance yet to go get the ABS I need to do my car. Hopefully this afternoon, so I can work on it over the weekend. Local store is in Lafayette Indiana... Called Meyer Plastics.
    Good luck.

  24. Is the FRP that Lowes/Home Depot sells, the same stuff as ABS?...
