How about a 12 Best HAMB Hot Rod and 12 Best HAMB Custom? Calendars?

The virtual 100 best Customs post got me thinking...

We have 'awards' for best Tech Post etc, and we have skirted the issue in many, many threads but I don't think we've ever really gone for it and came up with the "Best HAMB built Hot Rod" and the "Best HAMB built Custom" yet.

    What do you guys think?

I think the rules could be pretty simple... Car has to have been completed while you were a member of the HAMB and it has to have been you're car. It also doesn't have to be a car you still own and it doesn't have to have been built entirely by you. Just one that was completed while you were here (-Mike's+=- Merc, Rocky's truck, Roachy).

I know that leaves out cars like Cole's Metallica 36, but I think the line should be drawn somewhere. Kirk Hammet isn't a HAMBer.

Cole's car is probably the best custom I've ever seen and way outa my league as far as skill and money are concerned. I also think that the depth of Kirk Hammet's pockets makes it a little unfair. BUUUUUUTTTT if he logs on and chats a while, I say the 36 is in. And Cole's 53 is fair game ***-well.

I also think we should do it for bikes. (Cole's Blue Beast)

If you think voting for one in each category is too hard, or lame, or smacks of Ego-stroking, then how about the top 12? That way each category could represent a HAMB Callendar. And in fact that might be the best 'award' to limit how much is riding on it.

I don't see this as a giant ****-Smoking exercize, but more of a way to acknowledge what this board can fascilitate. I think it quantifies what can be done in the garages of pure hot rod nut-cases. And I think it's a good way to acknowledge our peers and solidify our little community here.

Also, I don't have a car that would be in it so I'm not looking for anything myself.

I didn't think the Hamb was about awards. Still don't.

    I vote no.

That would be Germ on the Tricycle.

No, I'm NOT going to put the pic up.

second choice in customs has to be the Barbie Bike.

OK, at least it's a reply...

But the HAMB is about HAMB Calleders and where do all those cars come from?

And I read statements all the time like "That's by far the best custom on the HAMB..." etc.

I think the truth of the matter is that we judge each other all the time, why not make it fun.

And to be honest, I'd rather win an award from the people I respect on the HAMB than one from the Goodguys.

    Oh, and by the way...

I think the whole rebel, 'I'm to cool to care what you think about my car' at***ude is about as pomp*** as the "You're car isn't cool enough for our show" at***ude.

But maybe you are all too cool for me...

Having a guy give you a thumbs up when you're driving is fun...

    Or isn't it?

Maybe I should flip him off.

I drove the **** out of my 49. I also 'touched' every *******ed part on that car. And to be honest, I thought it was the coolest thing ever when it started showing up in Magazines and Books. I will never feel bad about that.

I never asked for it, it just happened and I thought that was way cool.

Am I a ***? Do I not fit the HAMB mould?

    Talk to me...

Not your fault. It's just that most of us went thru all that earlier in our lives and we're beyond it.

"I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now."

P*** me a beer or 3 and I'll tell you what I really think!;)

Have you ever p***ed up a pat on the back?

Are you too seasoned, for a compliment?

I think that a lot of people are afraid to seem like they're fishing for compliments. I understand that, and it would be really gay to build a car for the sole purpose of winning "The HAMB Award" as well as extremely unrewarding from a monitary stand-point. ;)

But there's a part of me that finds it real hard to believe that so many people would spend so much time and money trying to find that ultimate rare, vintage, NOS, part if they thought nobody would ever notice and think it cool.

  10. Kilroy- I think you were sincere in your post about choosing best of each...But I personally have been a member of at least three organizations in my hot rod history that had winners and losers.

It always seemed to me that there were so many more of the latter ,that it was kind of a thorn in the side of the many who did not win.

I think the Hamb is good enough at complimenting where a compliment is due to cover any situation deserving such..........Just a thought, and my personal opinion.....

Later in my post I suggested maybe having the top 12 from each so that they could form a HAMB calendar and making it to the calendar could be the reward.

Surely 12 wouldn't be too limiting.

You know, I get where all the resistance is coming from.

I would like to point out however that the HAMB has always attacked cars that we thought were sub-par in some way. We've always been lightning quick to point out the 'losers' we see. We don't pull punches...

Why not turn all that energy around and point out positives? I really don't want to see any more pics of the 'Big-Wheel' coupe, but I would love to see more pics of the rods Killer is turning out. I don't want to hear about how much Jessie James ****s, but I would love to hear how much Flyrite rules. I could care less about Chip-Foose's latest creation, but I would love to see how Cleatus' creation has evolved. You smell what I'm stepping in?...

I agree with choprods, and in all probability it would turn into a popularity contest. I for one appreciate the thumbs ups I recieve or recognition. But to all those who pour their blood, sweat and tears into a car and no one votes or nominates their car its bound to create bad feelings. Why open the HAMB up to that?

I vote no for any popularity contest. This has come up before and fell right off the cliff as soon as the wheels left the ground. There are more than 12 cool cars on the Hamb. For every one winner there will be 100 losers.
I think when we post our projects and cars throughout the year here most of us would just rather have someone respond to that post and give a compliment.
You guys may not realize a simple response like .. I love your car or something relative makes everyones work worth it. Especially when it comes from your peers. PJ

Jeezuz ****ing Christ on a Pogo Stick...

My idea is for the winners to get on a ****ing callendar! It ain't the ****ing Grand National Roadster Show. If people have such thin skin that they pout if they aren't considdered one of the top 12 to make it to the callendar, then they ain't HAMBers. Man-Up people.

Hell, it might even be a good way to weed out a m***ive group of spineless crybabies in the process. ;)

Life is a popularity contest. Deal with it.

There are a million and a half reasons not to do about everything you've all done to day. Starting with stepping outside you're front door. But you did that because the upside is much better than the downside.

What the hell is the downside of recognizing the cars on here that keep us logging on every once in a while?

You're all winners... Group hug everyone.

No one will ever think your car is better or worse than any other car ever built.

    Every car is beautiful. Peace.

    ...And doggonnit! People like you!!!

Yeah you're math and my math are equally as pathetic. ;)

May be the callendar thing would have to be rethunk...

But to be truthfull I'm getting a little tired of the whining already.

I think I'll let it ride for a while and see what happens. But my energy level is waning.

Your heart is in the right place Kilroy but human nature being what it is, I'm thinkin it would cause hard feelings with some people. I don't know who makes the decisions about which cars go on the HAMB calanders but I think they're doing a fine job right now......

The Rocky 33 was fun to look at but I'll be the first to admit, it was SUCH a piece-a-**** and really undeserving of anything but an occasional "Hee hee" ...

Well Rock, I agree with you. I just refuse to let myself sink to the level of 'Human Nature.' Funny how that term never is used in a positive sense.

POS or not, your truck stood for something and I could think of much worse vehicles to represent the HAMB.

I think it's pitiful that people resent the thought of others being acknowledged for their effort. I just don't get it.

I won't post on this thing again if no one else says anything that really annoys me. ;)

The HAMB calander is not about the actual car/cars in the photos but about a great photographic shot that needs to be shared. Plenty of time is always given for each and every HAMB member to submit photos for possible submission. Take the proper formatted, high quality shot and your ride has an excellent chance of being included.

Kudos to Chad, Django, for all the effort involved cuz it certainly can't be an easy task choosing those shots.

I like my car...I think it's pretty cool. I like Nads' cars. Loudpedal's car is rad. The little RPU with 20 inch wires and the radiator in the bed is really cool. Ryan's car is burly as hell. I like Bleed's car. I like the uberchopped Coupe with the wheels as tall as the roof. I really like the T built by the same guy (V8). Choprods built a really cool roadster right before last year's drag races. Tons more. Cleatus' car is rediculous - esp. if you see what he started with. Blakmerk's Merc...rules.

Frankly dude, I think I've stepped on it some from time to time... :)

I've thought about this thread a lot.

I still say there should be some way of acknowledging people that have done either a great job building a quintessential Hot Rod, Custom, or Bike on the HAMB, or someone who has built a car or bike that captures the HAMB spirit (Rocky, Grim, etc.). I guess the problem is that I don't want to leave off anything that rocks either. I just would be real curious what the consensus is as to which were the best.

I just don't know the best way to quantify it all. How many winners, what categories, what awards etc....

Winners and losers defined Hot rodding... That concept is one of the oldest in this hoby/sport. The whole idea that you can't have a compi***ion because you can't alienate the losers reminds me of "The NO ADVANCEMENT SPECIAL" in the best of Hop Up. Without a friendly compe***ion you can't effect change and therefor no improvement.

But I can certainly live without it. The worse part might be feeding the egos of those that are over-stuffed as it is... (Oh ****!!! I forgot to add a smiley) ;)

yeah,,that would be the hard part,,my opinion, the only way id see right wa to have Ryan and his selected panel decide on the cars,..
a year or two ago someone started a thread to vote for your favorite "HAMB" car..if i remeber right, it turned out to be a disaster......
