But wouldn't that be cheating? Drag racers don't cheat,do they?

Regarding motor mounts, if I remember correctly you only need the mounts out of a 64 Galazy 289 to drop a 302 in a 54-56 Ford. Might want to check it out. If you use a front sump pan, you will also need a front cover with the dipstick hole in it. I goes without saying that you need to get the proper oil pickup tube to go wih the front sump pam.

  3. My dipstick goes in the side of the block...

  4. I'll post pics Sunday night of MY skim/m***age of a '52 x-member.

I made my own out of 3/8" plate, kind of T shaped bolted to the engine, and used early ford motor mounts bolted to a fabbed pad on the frame. Mustang 289 exhaust manifolds.

I cleaned up an old oil pan from my 63 1/2 falcon sprint that I sold years ago but kept the old engine,,,,,I installed the pan for a trial fit and it fits great and now I have plenty of clearence for the steering linkage,,

I will need to install the front cover from the 260 to relocate the oil dipstick in the front of the pan..

The real shock today was as I was trying to level up the engine to fabricate the engine mounts,,,,,,and the FACTORY 84 mustang mounts fell in place, ,,I mean they FIT,,,,now I do need to do a little m***age on the original frame mount to get it perfect ,,,but this might be something that might help a few other guys wanting to do the ford in a ford swap on the 52/54 fords.

I will post pictures saturday after I finish the transmission mount and the minor surgery on the K member,,,,stay tuned,,,It's gettin' there! :D HRP

TO get the engine to sit in there right you are going to need a front sump oil pan from a 289 or 302 out of an early mustang, falcon, fairlane or even a maverick. Really any ford car from 60' or early 70's. also you will need the oil pick up tube from the same car that matchs the pan. Another thing that you are going to have to do is drill a hole in the timing cover and install a dipstick tube in the front and plug off the hole from the other dipstick in the side. It's an easy swap thats what I am doing on my 53f100. ;)

As promised ,,,here is a photo of the 260 oil pan and it shows just how much room I gained,,,,,I showed the 302 oil pan in the first post,,,,,,

That problem is solved ,,,and thanks for all the input,,,,ain't the HAMB great!

Also I took a couple of photos of the 84 ford mustang motor mounts,,,,,I believe they will work with a little minor surgery on the frame mounts,,,,,but I'm gonna get a new set from a pal at the auto parts store before I start cutting to make sure everything works ok.

Look at the photos of the motor mounts,,there is a small gap where they bolt to the frame,,,,,,they are not bolted down and the rubber may flex enough to fill the void,,,,,,,,,,I haven't tried yet,,,,

I plan to work on the mounts and try and finish the ****** mount,,,,,,I removed the original transmission mount to make room for the 5-speed and lower it enough so as not have to butcher the floors of the car that I spent months repairing,,,,,,,I have also cut the K member to lower the tail shaft which will have a C notch when finished,,,,,,

I hope to post more pictures tonight,,,,,going to the shop now! HRP

    :)

Went to the upstate yesterday and took care of some business.
Went by HRP's place and looked at the wagon. Looking nice. Lots of work going on.

The 302 and the 5 speed all bolted down nice. They where also putting a few panels in a 40 Ford coupe.

His new shop is nice. It's enough to make a rodder jealous :)

Danny, his wife, my wife and I all went and got some Bar-B-Que....

    All and all..a good day......

Nah,,,the infamous Joey Chitwood telephone pole barrel roll was preformed in my first car which was a 54 sedan w/t a 390,,,nothing left from that car except a scar or two!

We didn't get as much done as I had planed yesterday,,,,,Dave and Cory were in the shop and a lot of work was done to the 40 coupe,,,,sandblasting, mounting rear fenders and a new tail pan

The transmission mount is made and bolted in but the K section is not finished,,,,gonna try and finish that and the frame pads for the motor mounts today!
