Hey guys, is there any electric wiper conversion out there for my 50 shoebox? Im debating whether i should just replace the original vacuum motor, update or retro fit an electic motor setup? im sure someone on here has done this. I heard that there is a setup from some Volvo that goes right into a 50. I dunno, thats the most detail i got about it..thanks

I know they use the steering boxes from older volvos but have not heard anything about wiper motors. If you here more about wiper motors keep us posted.

    thanks

Newport engineering. 2 speed or with delay function. 12 volt only. Fit and work perfect. I have installed them in 2 different shoeboxes and in many other cars. Never ever a problem. Very good product, and USA made.

I've seen wiper setups from MGB's , midgets & similar british cars used in many cars (used it myself before) . They work well . They have a pretty small-sized motor that's easily mountable , a cable-operated system that slides inside a tube (that can be bent to fit , or custom-bent out of 3/8 fuel line) , and nice "wheelboxes" that can be modified to suit the angle that's needed . 12 volt only

Newport Engineering will have one. I have one of theirs in my 48 Olds, and it works great. They are super people yo work with, anf the kits are a direct bolt in, with a great price

I just put one (Newport) in my 51 ford. It fit perfect and works great. It only took me about and hour and a half to install and the most time was spent cleaning up my wiring.

They are a little spendy, but no headaches if you shell out the coin.

  13. I had thoughts of a 60's-70's vw beetle motor. Anyone try that? i have one but haven't got around to it yet.

I've used Newport's wiper set ups in a half a dozen builds over the past 5 years. They work great, are easy to install, and the customer service is terrific. Yes, the are a little pricey, but you save a ton of time and lots of headachs not trying to install something that wasn't meant to fit.

When I put my flathead back in my car I put a PCV valve on it so I lost all the vacuum to run my wipers. Not sure if it will work but I'm going to try to use a vacuum pump from a newer Ford Super Duty Diesel pickup. They are 12 volt and self regulating so will turn off and on as needed. Went to the local wrecking yard and bought everything including the vacuum harness and wiring (just for the plug on the pump mainly) for about $20. Probably tackle this next week, will let you guys know how it works.
