From what I can see and the zerks you describe and perfectly round cover I would say AMC 20 out of a Jeep cj or other older Jeep. Does it have 2 piece axles?

what do you mean by 2 piece, there is a single axle shaft on each side with a hub that is wedged on by a nut to a tapered shaft. This rear has been shortened prior to my owning it. but I can see where he had to cut the axle and weld it back to gether to work...and before I get the feedback that you cannot weld an axle, he did and it works, I am not going to be racing this vehicle and it will only be on the street for parades...

I noticed after my post it had been narrowed. In stock form a model 20 has a small axle shaft on each side that connects the hub to the main shaft going to the spider gears. Yours may have been welded together when it was narrowed. Does the cover look like a ball cut in half with a flange welded to it? Get a pic of the cover posted up. These rear ends were used in just about anything AMC made over the years. Bu looking at what I can see of the spindles on the end of your diff it looks to me like an AMC model 20.

I can't figure out how to get my pic from my desktop to here, it asks for URL but when I retrieve the URL from my pic it just says desktop, doesn't narrow down the pic... These were cut/spliced very near the spider end...not 2 piecers.... Let me see if I can get them into my profile here and try to access them that way.

no, the rear cover has a small outward relief for the ring gear and also for the fill plug, I have got them in a public album on my profile now...had to resize them...

That is a strange one indeed. Let me dig around and see if I can come up with anything.

So far that rear end did not come out of a willy's "Jeep". Willy's morrow built all kinds of things way back when. Still looking but you got a weird one to say the least. It's not an AMC 20 for sure.

Nearest rear end with that bolt pattern on the cover is what a previous post here said....Chrysler 8.25 but to my knowlege they did not use a removable outer hub like yours has? Maybe they pieced 2 differentials together which may be why they welded the axles?????? Any markings on the ring gear?

As stated, they shortened this to 29" back plate to back plate, I found it in my buddy's yard with a few pieces of metal bolted to it like someone had started to build it into something and stopped. My buddy cannot even remember when or where he got it but said it looked like something he needed for a trailer he was building. Well, with his limited tools and skills his trailer never got built and I tripped over this in his "pile" out in a woods...he has no old cars there, his Stude wagon is being restored... Anyway, I brought it home, cut the spring perches off and cleaned it up. After setting my frame width on the project, I welded the perches back on and this is what I have now.... FoMoCoPower helped to identify this thing some time ago and based on a gasket he had he narrowed it down to a stude unit which lead to the Dana declaration. This of course went out the window when I found the Willys Morrow stamping with no other dicernable markings. there are part numbers cast into alot of the parts which I am familiar with on my John Deere tractor. Now just trying to find out what I have and if this will remain servicable for this project without me having to mount a world wide hunt for a part for it. The project is a non profit thing and cannot afford to buy a custom 9", and only running 12" wheels on it anyway. I appreciate the help in this iden***y crisis, so to speak.
