Like the nutty stuff they had in '50s showcars, frieze and all that metallic stuff. Anybody know of a source?
Hard to find. You see good stuff on Ebay once and awhile. Fabric is weird, odd stuff just pops up here and there. I have a few yards of a wild snakeskin that I found in a store. I thought I could go back for more, and when I tried they laughed at me and explained that when you see it, you have to grab all you need. There must be a source somewhere though. I always see strippers wearing things that would good on my car seats! I just can't seem to collect enough thongs to cover the inside of my Catalina. I'll keep trying though.
http://www.glfi.com/vinylbook_zodiacpage.htm here's some sparkle vinyls. go to their homepage also, they have a bunch of different stuff. Does this mean you got your mumu? Jay
I know of a couple places that have zodiac glitter vinyl, if you need any of that, here is some links. www.vintagevending.com -search for zodiac, I couldn't find it otherwise, but they have 6 colors and this place has it too http://www.garysupholstery.com/ngzodiac.html and here http://shop.store.yahoo.com/yourautotrim-store/zoglvi.html
I have been looking for parts and materials to restore my Great Grandparents 1936 Console Radio. It stands about 4' tall and is made of Walnut and Fiddleback Maple. Anyway... Instead of having some kind of Grille covering the speaker, they used a Cloth that had metallic strands woven into it. 2 or 3 years ago, I found a couple websites that dealt with restoring these radios that had reproduction metallic cloth. I'll see if I can find them again.
"Little India". I've gotten some really cool **** in the south Asian fabric stores in Toronto. Great food too.
Hey Nads, You might want to look at SMS Auto fabrics, http://www.smsautofabrics.com/sample.htm They used to sell a factory Chrysler fabric that has metalic strips woven thorughout. It was on the highend 1955 Belvederes. I think it was Jaquard? Something like that. It used to be $$$. They send free samples. Hyfire
Nads - While looking for replacement material for my '64 plymouth, I found some really cl***ic metallic/cloth material at a regular upholstery shop. Just ask to see the couch and chair cloth coverings, and you'll find some really cool stuff. Mutt
Here's fake fur at nearly $30 a yard. They have Jacquard too, but it didn't look Metallic. http://www.housefabric.com/categorysubview.asp?CategoryID=97&CategorySubID=267
Try SMS or Original Auto Interiors- www.originalauto.com 586-727-2486 Be prepared to spend money. Original style fabric ain't cheap. 50's/60's fabric is the new Zodiac. I have four or five cars lined up to upholster that way.
Here are some places to check: There is a chain of stores called "Calico Corners" which deals in home interior fabrics. Their selection is huge. Cost can be high, but check for last year's specials; what may look dated in your house may look perfect in an old car. I saw some brocades and friezes that would be killer in a kustom. I mentioned that I was looking for fabric for a custom car and they were really interested. The saleslady took me downstairs to their ba*****t sales room and showed me their selection of naugahyde-type fabrics. She said I could get other colors on order - just ask! I also like to check out a store called JoAnne's Fabrics (also a chain). They specialize in fabric ends. Very Cheap! There are many other discount fabric shops around, too. Fabric is created by the roll, but sold by the yard. When a roll gets down to a few yards, they sell the last bit at a discount to clear the stock. Fabric dye lots can vary in color. Let's say you wanted to cover a five-piece living room suite in the same material. You might need 100 or more yards of fabric, but there are only 10 yards left on the roll. Using the old roll plus part of a new roll may create a mismatched suite. So the old roll is sold off to discount fabric shops like JoAnne's. Since you won't need 100 yards to do your car, there is often more than enough at a bargain price. Remember, though, if you plan to do rolls-and-pleats - you will need 2-3 times as much fabric as a flat pattern. Always tell them what you are using it for - they know what fabrics will work for what applications - and if you will need any special facings, thread, etc. By the way this is also a good place to get the cotton-rope stuffing that goes inside the rolls to give them shape. Hope this helps, DAve
Don't know how large the interior of of a '27 Es*** is, but if it's close to that of a T-bucket you can go by this advice that came from an professional custom upholsterer on the National T-Bucket Alliance bulletin board: It all depends on the design lay-out, but, you can start with 7 yards for the bucket and bed cover. Good luck and happy s***ching!!! "S***ch" Crazy-T's of Northern Illnois Chapter, Palatine, Ill. http://www.goldstar-upholstery.com

HAMB's very own skips***ch might be able to help ya out, Nads. He did up a killer bed cover for me in the Zodiac vinyl a few months back. So, I know he's a good source of it... and if you need anything custom done up, he does great work!
