I feel like I'm crazy. I have looked through all the tech archives, my personal files and tried to search the whole HAMB and I was not able to find any info on adapting 48-52 F1 pickup brakes on 28-31 spindles. Did I just dream up this combo????
NO ITS SOMEWHERE HERE YOU NEED A SPECIAL RING ,spacer ring and redrill holes ..... I do remember seeing a thread on it ..................
so no special rings or spacers or bearings???? I'm not trying to be a smart-***, I just don't know much
I looked and couldn't find it. Based on my memory I bought a pair of F1 backing plates and looking for hubs and drums. Now I am doubting my memory.....
I found that one but it talks about F100 brakes on 37up spindles. I am wanting to us F1 on 28-31 (Model A spindles)
Does anyone here have first hand knowledge of using F1 brakes on Model A spindles? Is it as easy as buying the conversion pieces, as if I were installing 40 ford brakes, but use the F1 pieces instead?
Use the A bone hubs. You will need to adjust the spacing for the drum as it will be wider than the model brakes. You will no doubt need to redrill the backing plates. I don't have any Model A spindles here but if you can get me some legitimate dimensions off the backside of the spindle I'll make you a template for redrilling your backing plate. Or I'll make you a print that you can use to make your own template. PM me if you want.
Yes, the opening on juice backing plates are bigger than the boss on the spindle, I've used the Speedway kit before, only like $20. An old timer told me they used to use piston rings, that's exactly what they look like - here's a pic from speedway.
Hey thanks, I was looking in the MACS Model A catalog today and saw that they offer the same kit. It seems to be getting clearer in my head. Here I go at what I know now: to put the 40Ford (lockheed) juice brakes on a spindles you need the kit and to plug and redrill the backing plates or elongate the holes. the F1 brakes go on the 40 Ford spindles with no kit so if I use the parts to install the 40 brakes I can use the F1 instead That seems to be what I hear you'all saying Thanks!
