What is the cheap alternatives to inexpensive 16" narrow front tires these days, can't seem to find anything locally. Red Ram Hemi
Farm store. I'm getting tll skinny 16" bias plys from a farmers coop in iowa for about 115 a peice to my door. Search online you'll find a framers coop near to you no matter where you live in the nation.
I thought about the motorcycle tires, but decided against them because of safety reasons. I will look into the farmers co-op though. Mitch
Nope and nope! They are cheaper because there's no road taxes or certification on them. Most say on the side, 25 mph max speed. If Smokey notices that, you're busted. Cycle tires won't last long. They aren't built to take side loads like steering a car.
I'm not talking about tractor tires. I bought 16" truck tires load and road rated. There are a lot of farmers my age and older that still drive older trucks and swear by bias ply tires. The farmers coops know that and that is who they cater too. I have been doing this longer than the overwhelming majority of the folks on this board have been alive, if there is an inexpensive way to do something I probably know what it is.
those tires are gonna be real stiff for the fronts. i have seen nanco 16" truck tires for cheap. i dont think i would run em
Pork'n'******, Are those the Nanco Truck tires? I found those 2 with tubes for around $250 ish. I saw them on my cousins sheep hearder wagon which has 40's ford wheels and they look good. They were 7.50x16...so for the back.
I bought interco 7.50x16 bias. But the place I found has smooth treads in 6.5 to 7.5 in 4 , 6, or 10 ply. My ran 100.00 + 15 to ship or about that. Just to put everyones mind at ease mine are speed rated for 112 mph. That means in theory I can run 112 mph for 24 hours straight without the tire leaving the rim or comming apart. Nanco actually makes some radial Lts that you couldn't tell from a bias ply without reading the sidewall. They look more old school than old school tires did. Scarliner used to run some on his '27 Coupe. You can buy 16" nancos in 4 ply, not too stiff for the front of anything.
right, 4 ply sounds good, i was thinking those things were only around an 8 ply. something to keep an eye on for sure if/when you buy.
Motorcycle tires often do not have a sufficient load rating to take the weight of an automobile, not to mention that they would necessarily have a remarkably smaller contact patch than a conventional tire. Lots of people get away with unsafe things, every day. This does not mean that it is safe, it means that they are lucky.
What's wrong with using the right tires for the right price? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/COK-639760/
