Gotta love this one....sure would make a great street car.....knuckle power could rattle some windows.
Is that what they used to call a Quarter Midget? They were very popular in the '50's-'60's. Nice rig! pigpen
I believe you can get plans on how to build one i think i have seen them on the Bay (ebay) and yes that would make a CL ride especially with fuel prices climbing
Looks like a 3/4 midget or possibly the virtualy extinct 1/2 midget. 1/4 midgets are lawnmower engined.
hatch, Is that the car that belonged to a fellow in Ohio? Can't remember his name, he built it, raced it, then restored it and transported it to vintage meets on the roof of his station wagon. I had a Dryer built midget just like it back in the 1970's. They were full midgets, ran with the Offy and V8-60 powered cars, Elto outboards too.
funny this thread popped up now....i just tonight started on a cowl for one of those...im just doing it to learn how heres a picture of one that the guy whos helping me made he has a knucklehead with an in/out box that he ran in his rail midget in the 50's sitting in his barn that ive got my eye on i cant wait to have the cowl come togther its just such a nice shape zach
zach, WOW! Nice work, do you have those plans from the 1930's Ray Kuns books? If not I'll Xerox a copy for you. GET THAT KNUCKLEHEAD!!!!!!! The early midgets were built out of Model T Ford parts. The big 1926-27 T brake drums were welded to 12 inch rims and set the standard for all six lug midget wheels.
i didnt make the one i posted...the guy helping me learn did...and its entirely made by hand with hand made tools and patterns i would love to see those plans if you could copy them though im trying to learn all i can about this stuff hot rods AND race cars...taking in all that he tells me when im down there in his barn...its amazing to talk to this guy cause he was there and did it and met the people hes very secluded though and i am not alowed to give out his name or any of the ways he shows me to make things...hes passing it on i guess? zach
