Neighborhood cars as childhood influence(55)

A friend and coworker of my mother's would come by our house a lot in various interesting cars. When I was in the first grade, I got to bring a brand-new 2000 Corvette Z06 to show and tell! (with his help, of course.) Certainly not HAMB friendly, but the fun I had with him cemented my love for anything with a engine.

He is 85 now and I call him from time to time to get input on the Lincoln.

 

I use to wait for the bus with all my brothers and sisters around 1972, and a guy on our street use to leave for work with a 66 GT-350. I learned later from my Dad it was a solid lifter 306 Horse R model. It was real cool.

 

Mid 60's. A guy around the corner had a tahaition 35 5window with a 265,another gut down the block had a Metallic Blue 35 5window with a nailhead. I think everyone in town had a 55-57 chevs. Lotsa shoe box fords. Most of these cars were only 5-10 years old and were relatively cheap,daily transportation. My Mother even had a 57 chev 2dr 283, Which I was too young to drive.(darn)

 

My best friend's older brother had a 1963 Vette Split window coupe.. That car was awesome. he used to let 4 or 5 of us kids cram into the back window area and front seat and he would kick it ... That car was fast!! I remember it as if it were yesterday.. light blue metalic with Chrome sidepipes.. I burned the **** out of my leggs once on those pipes...
My first car was a 66 Charger with a 383 4bbl.. It was awesome. in 79 when I bought it all the kidds in my High school were driving whimpy cars. I remember one dude who's dad owned the local Pizza Cjoint got a brand new 79 Trans Am remember the ones with a screaming Chicken on the hood. well his car was all nice and new, white with a orange and red Chicken.. he had to race me. Eneryone from school turned out. I was so proud when that old dodge kicked his Trans Ams but.. I loved that car
