Those ElCaminos can be bought on Ebay without selling your kidney or left testicle.. There's a couple of '69 Novas I want add to my stash...
Here are some of the cars that I run on my original 1960's Aurora 4-lane track. I've still got all of my cars "from back in the day", but I find that the Johnny Lightning Thunder Jets are fine for today's racing. Using them provides more equity when friends drop by to race (kind of like IROC for HO), since the cars all perform similarly. "Pick a car, pick your lane and let's race!" Jim
Hi my name is Jason and.......I am a slot addict. I have well over 700 pancake powered red oil burnin slot cars that are still making laps in the basement. I'll have to take some pictures and post them.
Yeppers!!! Some of mine are JL's including some pullback bodys... I just used my extra Aurora chassis for them....
My hobby shop has Fred Lorenzen's 63 1/2 Galaxie now, I'm going to pick it up when I get a chance. I'll post a pic, he also has a Mario Andretti 67' Fairlane real nice!
I still have my set still in the box from when I was a kid. I don't remember using it, so I'm sure the cars I had didn't work or something like that.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this company. They still make T-Jet cars, parts, Aurora track and accessories. I've bought a few things from them and was quite happy with the quality of the stuff. http://www.modelmho.com/
What a thread! this is really bringing back the memories. I got my first slot car set in the late 70s or early 80s when I was a kid. It was Aurora AFX, had a DeKon Monza and a Porsche Turbo from memory. Cars were much smaller than 1/32, but can't remember the exact scale, maybe 1/64. Not sure if thats the same as the topic of this thread. I burnt the engines out after I dribbled oil all over the track so the cars would spin the rear tyres and slide through the corners. Later built a Scallectrix 1/32 buying old cars and track. Ended up with loads of track but could never get it all to work. When I lived in London for a couple of years I bought a track and some used Brisca Stockcars which would slide around the corners and had some sort of pivot pin that would allow them to rotate on the slots axis. Wish I'd bought it home with me. I love this track here. Do you have more photos? One day I'd like to build an oval bullring for stockcars.
Sorry no other photos ... it's BURRIED in my parents basement right now... hopefully within the next year or so I'll have an office at my new garage to put it in!
hope you people are Happy ! Spent the weekend getting mine out and setup ! was put away for 40 + years ! Now to get the Grandson Hooked ! Where can I find that red oil ?
I got the Golden Gate Bridge set for Christmas 1969. I would have been 7. My dad got it set up while I was over at a buddy's house on Xmas day and when I got home my sisters and my dad were racing! Had it until 1985 when I sold it, still working fine and still mounted on the same 3/8" plywood table with 12" legs that my dad built. I still have all my cars, the original Model Motoring cars and several AFX cars. For Christmas 2010 I gave my 10-year old son a new Scalextric "Street Cars" 1/32 set with two Porsche 911 GT2s. Laid it out on the living room floor and added several straight sections of track to lengthen the straights on one side of the figure-8 layout. Still as fun as ever!
I still have a couple cars and some track left from back in the 70's. I just found this tonight looking around. A generic bottle that say motor lube and some of that MCD microcell tire dressing we used to put on those foam tires to make them stick. Never cared for the stuff. Also found some Auto World decals too...
Here is a shot of my Aurora layout in the mid-60's. My dad made a table that fit over the spare twin bed in my room. It had a grass mat with black tape around the edges. Using an article in a model magazine I made two long pit buildings with sponsor panels along the top. The original cars were a Mustang and a Ford sedan. Later I got a Ford GT and Ferrari. The controllers looked like small steering wheels but broke within weeks. I then bought new plunger controllers. The other shot is a new layout I got in 1971. Here my wife takes a car through it's paces.
I don't remember, it's from the early to mid '70s. It's packed like a sardine in my grandparents house somewhere.
This is to wiered just today I went to goodwill to look around and found a ho slot car set still in the box ( now I find this thread for the first time) not to old but 2005 everything is there, along with the instructions, everything is wired down just like new, but no cars, checked out the transfromer and it works, going looking for cars tomorrow.Grandson coming to spend the weekend we are going to have us some fun.
I should get my track up and running again... I was thinking about building another 4 x 8' table first so that way I could use all 125 feet of track I have.... Plus I'm still eye balling those NHRA Auto World drag strip sets on ebay...
Reproductions of the Aurora Tub Track are available from Gotham Cruisers "custom work" division. I think they run between $1,000 and $1,500. They can be made as one piece or in two sections. Here is a link: http://www.gothamcruisers.com/custom.htm Use the right arrow to find photos.
