First off, Im a just a young newbie. This may be a pretty easy deal, but I want to get some pointers before I tear into something. My boss has a 1955 chevy truck his dad bought new in '55. He is having me redo the thing from top to bottom. I pulled the steering gear box loose from the frame and slid the whoe column and all out the front of the fire wall so we could take the cab to get blasted. I am going to be putting a new gear box back on it. My question is, how do you get the column tube out of the old gear box to paint it and install in the new one? Thanks, Jared

Buy a shop manual. It should show you how to do it. It probably needs cleaned up. If that's the case and it needs to be taken out you can probably clean the outside really well and paint it before reinstalling it. I had my front end aligned and the steering box was fine. This was on a 57 Chavey p'u that still had all of the stock stuff. It had been hit hard in the front before I got it so I'd venture to guess yours is fine unless you already pulled it apart.
    Good Luck,
    Seth
