Here's the latest 40--Folkstone grey--just finishing up, it hauls *** pretty good with the HIPO 62 327. It is going to a friend who I worked with for many years. This is a better way to waste my time in retirement than watching the tube for sure.
Did you build this car??? I want some build photos.. Give us some information on suspension and steering box used. Excellent.
It looks really nice! Next time around, my coupe will be more stock bodied, with a maroon color....kind of like I had originally planned, but somehow didn't end up with......ADHD at the paint store I guess!
For those who asked--Yes I built the car--have built several since I retired. It is an axle car (always) with a 525 box, stock frame, split bones,4" axle, discs in front,8" rear with turbo 350,62 327,converted 40 column, hidden a.c.. Have some build pics somewhere I think--started this one in July 2010--front sheet metal is always the biggest challenge on these-this one fits very well as all the pieces came with this car. I don't do the uph and have a friend paint them in pieces--wife helps with all sheet metal ***y and lineup--better eyes than me--now just gotta gets the little glitches out--then the 40 woody for a friend will come back for final ***y--keeps me out of trouble and busy. Cloud Mist grey one in my avatar was done 4 yrs ago and is basically the same. Since retiring in 2002 I have done 4 coupes a convert, my kid's dk blue one and the 40 woody that came as a stock roller plus my 57 FI BelAir-got a line on a 40 std--may be next--have never done a std.
Georgous as usual. Let me see now, if I throw my 40 on a trailer I can be there in a couple of days. Got time? Great work Tim.
Details on the 525 box? Installed in stock location - and how? What pitman arm? What header/exhaust manifold on driver's side? thanks, vic
Krusty 40--525 box is mounted with a weedetr bracket--moved back toward firewall approx. 3/4"--block hugger headers, CE mtr mounts-cast std pitman arm-clears pan 1/2" at full left turn. Stock column converted to auto with detent plate and horn set still working in center of wheel. Caution!when using an automatic trans and column shifter,be very careful that shift rod does not interfere with the brake pedal when in low gear-can block the pedal. Hardest parts on a 40 for me are: -alignment of front clip(wife helps)-have done 7 -***y of front window mldgs with vents, etc to look and fit correctly-touchy job -conversion of column so nothing shows and everything functions has shift indicator behind speaker grille along with ac center vent. Also it seems most all parallel rear leaf kits don't center the wheels in the opening-have to move rear back about 5/8 to 3/4 inch-stock 40's seem to also set forward the same amt.
Yes, you have the touch with 40 coupes. Keep them coming and when you are not doing anything come down and work on mine. Lynn
Being's how I'm such a nice guy, I'll loan you my 40 std cpe to practice on if you like. Just trying to be helpful. I'm sure you would take me up on it as you, too, are a really nice guy but the freight from VA to CA and back is just too much for cheap guys like us. Thanks anyway... at least I offered! Bullshipping Al
Nice! My dad had a 40 DeLuxe 4 door sedan when I was 16. He also had two coupes, a DeLuxe and a Standard. That was in 65 and 66.I've been in love with them since.
