1964 Barracuda

    What is everyone thoughts an a 1964 Barracuda? Do you think it looks good? What is a fair price for one needing restored?

    I love them. Of course, I am a bit biased as I have a 66 Barracuda (same body style as a 64) and a 68 Barracuda convertible.

    As to what one is worth needing restoration? That's a rather vague question. You'll have to give more information on the car in question. How much restoration? How much rust? What drivetrain? What parts are missing? What works? What doesn't?

    BTW, that vintage Barracuda isn't a high-dollar collector car. So, I wouldn't pay a lot for a project.

    yah, not much. I got a 65 and they just arnt worth much restored. I got a running and driveing one that most stuff works. I was thinking of asking a grand

    I'll say this....if its even somewhat of a rusty car, then p*** on it. You can get something a LOT easier to restore and it won't cost you much more than the rusty one. The market just doesn't place a lot of value on them (and I say that as an owner of a restored 66).

    I love 'em but never had one.

    My uncle who lived next door when I was a kid bought a new one in '65. Silver with the black stripe down the center, black interior, 4 speed and the formula S package. He still has it, still wearing original paint.

    The front fenders got kinda ugly in '66 when compared to the 64-5, but that's just me.

    This one has no motor or transmission, was a V8 origininally. The body is all there with very minor rust. Interior would need to be redone. Asking price is 1500. Thought the guy may be high, sounds like he is by what you guys say. I have always liked the big back window in them, and you don't see many either.

    I have one that I have been working on (off an on---more off) and paid $600 not running. I quickly got overcentered on it. Buy all the parts I have for $13,000 and I will give you the car.

    Not bunches of them around...you have lots of choices on what to do with it....all good in my opinion!!

    there a 65 for sale locally, V8 (not running), body is a tad rough but rust free. The guy if firm at $1300, been trying to sell it for at least a year if that tells you anything.
    Joatha, your killing me, I had a 68 vert back in the 70's along with 2 68 Formula S fastbacks and a coupe. I'd love to have my vert again! It was hard to find then, real tough now days!

    always wanted to do a phantom 63 cuda..... if the car your looking at was a v8 ....make sure you get the exhaust manifolds. the drivers side is unique to early a bodies.

    The only real difference between the 6 and V8 is the torsion bars. The brakes are also different, along with the spindles. The rear is a 7-1/4, the V8 has heavier axle bearings. The engine bay is the narrowest of the 'A' bodies, which is why the special manifold on the drivers side.

    Had a '66 a long time ago. Only thing I hated about it was the 13" wheels.

    I've had my vert since 1986. I drove it for 4 years with every body panel in a different color (looked like a macabre version of the Partridge Family bus). Then I tore it down when the motor got to where I was getting more miles per gallon of gas than I was per quart of oil. I pulled it out of a cow pasture and the body was horrific. So, its been a MAJOR MAJOR project. Here's what all has been replaced...

    Front driver's side frame rail
    drivers side inner fender
    both front fenders
    hood
    front valence panels (upper and lower)
    trunk lid
    both quarters
    rear valence panel
    drivers door
    floor pans

    Its in paint now - had it painted a while back. I've just struggled getting it back together (funds, motivation, other cars, etc). I finally have gotten back around to finishing it. I'll be dropping a 340 auto in it. I hope to be able to get it done by spring 2012.

    I really really love this car. It drove so well and was so much fun. It really is my dream car - more than any I've ever had. Its not exactly HAMB friendly. But, I like a variety of styles and I'll have that when all is said and done.

    BTW, there are some verts out there. They aren't plentiful. But, they can be found.

    Given the body is fairly straight, the interior is there, and all the chrome stuff is there, I'd say $800-1000. Maybe $1200 if its a REALLY nice body with nothing butchered.

    Getting a motor for it will be easy. Any small block Mopar will work - 273/318/340/360. And, the only real gotcha on the motor is the driver's side manifold. Its a tight squeeze and you'll need the right one. But, those - while not common - are also not impossible to find. I think there are also some block-hugger headers out there that fit (not tried them myself).

    Its definitely not a common car. They are nice handling cars, too.

    In a 64-66 Barracuda?? I'm not sure you can get a hemi in one of those without major major surgery - lots of fabrication.

    have owned no less than 4 1964 Cuda's - yes there is a little difference mostly dash - than a 1965....not really hard to get parts as the Val parts are simular...that said...and being a Cuda guy as well - $1500 for a roller is on the high side - better be a nice one with all Cuda spec parts there - motors/trans are easy....just saying the demand is just not there.... a 1964 Mustang....gives a woody to many...just not me...had both...take that mopar any day...

    My first car was a 1965 Barracuda with a 1970 Duster 340 and 4 speed along with the rear end.

    It was brutally fast and very fun to drive. I could lift the front wheels on a launch at the track and ran 12.5 1/4 mile times on slicks with the headers open.

    Engine mods? Edelbrock torker-750 double pumper, stock 10.5 comp and 2.02 valve heads.
    Crane SSH 320NC cam 320 duration 508 lift and 110 degree overlap.

    I have thought that one day I'd like to build one to improve on the short comings of my original.

    Completely remove the old mopar front suspension and towers, open up the engine bay and install a Mustang II front end.

    Then slide in a new Mopar Hemi crate motor, and not the imitation hemis they are installing in their new vehicles either.

    I think I could build an absolute killer 65 cuda, I really love the old full gl*** back window and how they look.
     
  24. Dad had one back in 65. Bought it used only 4000 miles. 6 cyl /4speed. Cool car, looked like it had the 273 though.

    The 14" BVD wheels are a nice replacement for the 13". Also, the 14" centers fit inside the Cragar 15" shells if you want to retain 5-on-4" bolt circle and have some awesome looking steelies with dogdishes.
    The 318LA is a drop in (with the correct left exhaust manifold). The 340 and 360 need a left side motor mount modification to make it fit. And it is "factory" normal for the engine to be off-center in the ch***is favoring the right hand side of the car.

  27. okay i have one and love it. well a 66. i think the price thge guy call ius on the high side i payed in 97 1000 swissfranks for mine and to this time there was many early cudas outh there for this price. In the meantime the prices going up . Even for a piece of **** i would have to pay 4000-5000 at the moment. Well thats in switzerland. Dontt worry about the driverside header. You can get good flowing headers from dough s and som others. Sadly all in the 600$ range .Here is a pic of my one in the past. At the moment its bare metal and getting restored. If you like i can post pics of the restoring
