I have a 1940 Ford chassis that I want to put a 1940 Ford truck on, I have come across a 1942 ford truck. The question is can I use the 42 cab and bolt on a 40 front end? will the cab mount to the 40 frame? Also are the rear fenders and bed the same? I was told that the 42 bed is 3" wider can I remove the 3" from the width and make it a 40 bed? will the running boards from a 40 fit the rear fenders?

    Any insight would be helpful

The cab up to 46 will fit the 40 car frames. About the only difference is the gas tank under the seat and 40's are in the rear. The cowl is the same so the 40 front sheet metal will bolt up. The 40 bed is 46" wide but the rear fenders on the 42 up is different where it bolts to the 40 running boards. The bottom 8" of the fenders can be changes to fix this. Here is a thread I’m doing using a 46 cab and 39 car frame.

So for the bed I would need to take a few inches out of the width? and then it will fit the frame?

  4. The bed side panels are the same '38-'47. You could buy the end panel, tailgate, and crossmembers from Mac Products which reproduces the old Ford truck beds, and use the sides you have. Or cut 3" out and weld it back together.
