Well I started chopping the top this Saturday and so for I think its turning out pretty good for never doing it before. I chopped it 3.5 iches all the way around. Im going to use the rear glass out of a 48 Fleetline. These are also some pics of the floor I built. The floor was SHOT. I channeled the car so much of the floor was going to need to be redone anyway. The trunk floor when I got was held together with roofing tar and green patio carpet.

  2. Very Nice work.......I like the fleetline glass idea too!

Top looks good, floor looks good, but I would like to see some beads rolled for added strength.

I really like how the car sits; great stance.

It will be a nice ride!

The 3.5 inches is straight down. I though about doing some bead rolls in the floor but i built a whole tubular structure for the floor to sit on out of 1x2 all the way across the floor so I figured it would be strong enough with that. Thanks for all the postive comments I was nervous as hell doing it but Im happy with the way its coming out..

i only say that because its that back window that truley makes it a hardtop..its not often that you see a well chopped hardtop chevy. i think the fleetline glass would take away the kustom vibe.. just my humble opinion..dave

I'm with Paras, I think the hardtops need the original glass. I just love the Moonglow, one of my all time faves.
You're doing a great job, I'm just chucking in my worthless 2 cents.

REAL nice job Jody  . it's lookin GREAT. love the floor too. that 3 1/2" looks like just the right amount for that hardtop . i do like the looks of the stock back window aswell, though i am curious to see the Fleetline window.

Looks great so far. Perfect proportions on the chop and the floor looks real sano. I did a similar sort of thing with the sub structure underneath, since I didn't have a bead roller, and it's plenty solid. Just make sure you have plenty of welds here, there and everywhere connecting the tin to the substructure so you won't have a nasty vibration "buzz"

That looks damn good... I suck at metal work like that so I really appreciate all the hard work that goes into chopping a top. Cant wait to see it done.
