Can anyone tell me any sites with chopped fleetlines i just picked up a 51 and just got rid of a 41 international and 51 plymouth that i chopped myself and want the challenge from the fastback thanks guys
Maybe 50chevy.com? They did an article on how to chop a fleetline in r and c when i get off I will try to find it for you.
i guess i just dont know where to start with this one haha ive got the concept but like with the pie cuts how do you figure where to position them and what "equation" do you use to know how much to cut the front and rear to keep the equal? thanks alot though your pics do help!
All your fleetline Needs... Not chopped yet but very cool build http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=501036
Here is a '49 I had a few years back. The chop (with '40 Ford rear window was done when I bought it). I did the doors/trunk etc.... Body work was not compete yet, but this shows the roof lines....
Yea, I've seen them done that way... I clam shelled the deck lid and think that the lines come out better. Both ways work, just alot less metal work cuttin through the trunk.
The way I chopped mine I was able to do it without cutting the trunk and rear window. I did it this way because I wanted to keep the stock roof line. It's lowered 3.5 inches in the front and about 5 inches in the rear.
i made a template out of cardboard that was 3.5 inches. I used it to draw my lines on the b-post and a-post. you actually take less out of the a-post. Then I followed the thread that stickylifter did for the rear. I spot welded the trunk closed and i made the cuts to the c-post and cut one inch around the trunk. I was then able to lower the entire roof and trunk at the same time. You have to cut the braces loose inside also.
OkI see what your sayin. I retain the stock glass in mine too, just laid it flatter. I made fewer cuts through the body and if I meesed up the deck lid I could get another. Did you have to add metal back in on the upper quaters? How did you handle the transition from just under the quater window to the tail pan? That would be a great bit of info to post..
Yup. I had to add more metal in. I wanted to keep the trim so I also had to cut around the trim mounting area and mold it back in. I bent the upper quarters to make them flow down to where the trunk now sets. The main issue was getting both sides to match
here are a few more. Its been fully welded and smoothed over now. Just need so minor hammer and dolly work to finish it off
I have a 50' fleetline 4 door that I chopped 6 inches in the front and 4 in the back. We used the R and C as a guideline. I'll get pics up asap.
