On June 27th 2010, my second son, Race Andrew was born. All was well, we had a great day with family and friends. During the night he stared to get really sick and no one was sure why. The morning of the 28th he was taken by helicopter to a hospital 75 miles from our home. We arrived there to find out he had a life threatening heart defect that was not detected during the pregnancy. He was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. A condition which the left side of his heart did not develop, and is not there to supply his body with the oxygenated blood we need to live. It was July 7th before they got him stable enough to undergo his first of 3 open heart surgeries. He did very well, recovered quickly, and planned on bringing him home in a few short weeks. Then ran into feeding issues, intestine issues, and a stomach surgery that went terribilly wrong. He had no choice but to undergoe 3 more high risk stomach surgeries to try to repair damages done the first time. Well, long story short, we were able to bring him home on January 17th. He is on oxygen and has a feeding tube through his nose running down into his intestines. We are enjoying having him at home, but we know it is temporary. He has his second heart surgery toward the end of February. and his third heart surgery will be at or around 3 years of age. We are so thankful for everything we have been through. It has taught us to appreciate everything in life. We were told that there is no reason why he survived all of the trauma he has been through. All of the doctors and surgeons have told us he has written his own book. But most of all we are just thankful to have our family together and home. So, all of our friends and family are having a benefit in March to help out with the 4.2 million dollar debt that has added up over the past 7 months. Of course my insurance is paying alot of it, but we are liable for alot as well. This will be a great help. It has been left to me to get a t-shirt designed. They are wanting to get a bunch of t shirts made to sell at our benefit and raise some cash. This is where I need your help. We have alot of amazing artists on this board. I would love to have a traditional rod themed benefit t-shirt. We are not expecting a handout and can pay someone to design us something. Let me know if you are willing to help and what you need to do it.

I have posted some pictures, the day he arrived at the Heart center through the day we got to hold him, an finally at home.

Thank you for your time, Cody, Adeline, and the little guys Revin, and Race

Cody, contact Dart165 here on the board. Chris did the logos for FlatCad Racing, and he's a great guy!

Have him do you logo- FlatCad Racing will pick up the tab. Lord knows, you've got enough to worry about!

    Best of luck!

Consider yourself truly blessed. My cousin's grandson Tucker is a HLHS survivor. The doctors at the local medical center told his parents that he was the first baby with HLHS in the area to survive after being taken home undiagnosed. He's been through numerous operations and will have to have more surgery as he grows older. But for now, he's a healthy, happy boy who can do almost anything his schoolmates can.

Please keep up posted and let us know how the fund raising works and if the T-shirts are for sale outside your area.

    All the best,

    Dave B.

    Cody,
My nephew is a HLHS survivor as well. He will be 15 in February...Thank God! He has had the open hearts, a pacemaker, and is up for another surgery in the spring. He is an amazing kid with a great future ahead of him. PM me if you ever wanna talk with a family that's been through it... Praying of thanksgiving and continued good health for you all.

Just one more reason why the HAMB is the best. It's as much(or more) about the people here as it is about the cars. Sign me up for one.
Greaser815, best of luck for Race and your family.

Just went out to the FlatCad Racing site. Too cool!

Folks like you are the reason I love the HAMB so much!

Ordered a T-shirt so I can wear it this summer and get asked the inevitable questions - then I can tell people about HLHS and how FlatCad helped. :)

Well, uh, besides that - it's a REALLY great T-shirt!
