I'm trying to figure out where Pontiac put the VIN numbers on late 30's-mid 40's Pontiacs and need help. Was the number only on the engine block like on my 34 Chevy? Also how many digits would the VIN be? The 30's model car I'm talking about has a plate rivited to the top of the left frame rail with an 8 digit number 60A8XXXX. Could this be the factory VIN or maybe a state issued VIN? The other Pontiac I found is a 46? but I can't find a number on it anywhere but the flat head is still in it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

1930-1934: Right side of rear crossmember or under left front fender 1935: On a plate or right side of frame center of right front wheel. 1936-1938: on top of frame ahead of steering gear. 1939-1940: On front crossmember behind radiator 1941-1942: on left side of dash. 1946-1948: On left side of firewall under hood. 1949-1952: Tag on left front door post. C-60Axxxx would be correct for a 1938 Deluxe Six. 6CAxxxx would be correct for 1937 Deluxe Six.
The car in question is a 38 Pontiac Six 2dr sedan. I looked at the VIN plate on the frame rail and it looks like 60AXXXXX but according to the page shown above it should be 6DAXXXXX. Can you help clarify this?
OK, I can't find a vin on a 47 Pontiac. I've looked and don't see it. Does anybody have a pic of a vin on a 47 Pontiac?
Hi, I have a 1946 Pontiac Torpedo, and I need to know where is the VIN number on the frame,I have only seen the body plate on firewall. thanks Javier
I know this is an old post, but I can't seem to find the VIN tag on my '38 Pontiac 6 2dr sedan. Is it underneath the battery tray and on top of the driver's side framerail? Do any of the numbers on the body tag on the firewall mean anything?
