I have a budget project car I am working on.....I need to completely re-cover both the front and back seats for my 1950 ford.....after getting a quote of over $1000 I researched and found these guys... http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/ I could get all the material for half the cost and do the labor myself.....has anyone used or heard of these guys? Any suggestions....I just want a basic black single pleated vinyl
if its the same one i used i got front and back seats with the colors of my choice for around 350 shipped.there out of m*** so if that company is than i recomend them highly.i love my seats.
Before you go and buy anything make sure you get samples...and make sure they know for sure the samples match the actual product. I ordered samples from them in November, ordered seats front and back and a headliner to match the seats in December and they sent me the wrong colored headliner three weeks ago. Got the seats last week and they look beautiful, but they don't match the headliner! They then tell me that the manufacturer changed the colors. Wow thanks for letting me know. So right now I'm waiting to resolve the matter. The stuff looks good for the price but they ****ed up so we'll see what happens.
Thanks Hitman for the advice.....Let me know how it works out....I would be curious to know how good their Customer Service is.
Well they email me back in a timely manner but yes, I am curious to how good the customer service is. I also have a 50 Ford so I'll post some pictures this week sometime so you can check out the product.
I just bought some from this guy http://onlineupholsteryandmore.com/ front and rear set for my '52 Ford in a kind of shiny blue vinyl. Got them just recently, they look really good, if they fit as good as they look I'd say I'm super happy. Price was right around $385 shipped. Installing them isn't bad, buy the Tex Smith upholstery book and read through the seat part before you start. Also, buy a good hog ring pliers. Blast and paint your seat frames before you install covers and check for broken springs. You may have to have some channels sewn into your new covers to hold the rods that the hog rings grab onto, keep that in mind when installing. One more tip, put metal screen down on your seat frames before you put the padding on, it keeps mice from being able to chew up your padding from underneath. You can hog ring or zip tie the screen to the frame. It also helps keep the springs from poking through the padding. This is definitely a job you can do yourself with a little patience.
You could get enough vinyl to do panels, seats, headliner, for a little over $100 at joannfabrics.com I wonder about the quality of vinyl, the quality/height of the foam, piping, thread My wild *** guess is that like most companies, they have to cut corners like mad to make a profit. I've seen custom fit covers on my friends galaxy. They looked nice but puckered and looked like the slip over covers they were. Come think of it I bet they give you cheap or very little foam on the bottom portion. There's no telling if the local person will do a better job. I'd say buy a machine for $350, make your own covers for yourself and your buddies, then sell it if you want. Just an idea, and like I said I'm talking out my a, I have no experience with that company. My experience is that I'm always happier when I do it myself. At 0least I don't feel ripped off.
It looks like the same company the shop I worked for used for seat covers when people were too cheap to have the seats reupholstered,I think they changed the name but sounds like the same place. I used those covers on a 53 olds since the seats were so shot there was not enough for a good pattern and I wanted covers quickly, after a few years later I redone the whole interior and used those covers for patterns.
