ive been trying to engineer a disc brake setup using the original spindles from my 55 plymouth, and am stuck on caliper selection. Im using a rotors from a early 70's full size chrysler, which are a m***ive 11 3/4 in by 1.25 in thick, yet im stuck because im trying to keep things simple by using a caliper that does not require a piggyback bracket to fuction. If anyone has done this before or has any suggestions, please bring em the **** on. thanks, mopower
I made a disc brake setup for a 61 Chrysler. It was fairly easy to do and worked good. First thing I did was get some Granada rear rotors and some loaded 80s GM mid size front calipers. Then I fitted (had to turn down the OD of the hubs about a 1/8) the rotors on the Chrysler hubs. Then set the caliper on the rotor and applied air presser to hold it on. Then I could make a cardboard pattern for brackets that I ended up making out of 3/8 plate. Not sure what you mean by piggyback bracket. I used the GM calipers because there easy to mount and the ford rotor hats for there shared bolt pattern with the Chrysler hubs. Dont know if all this is of any help, but theres some stuff to think about.
Greetings... Didnt see an intro. Got any photos of your Plymouth? Cool cars... what body style is it? Got a Hyfire V8 , a straight six or later model engine? Hyfire
I would check at forwardlook.net and see what they have there. I remember seeing something on there about disc brake swaps. I have a '55 Belvedere I am parting out, if you happen to need anything let me know. Jason
My Plymouth Has A Mildly Hopped Up 440 With A Torqueflite, But Its Currently Down Because The ****** Is Shelled And Im Low On Funds For That And The Disc Brake Swap. Pictures Soon..... Paul
