Way to go nick!! and actually not a bad weekend, i'll be up for Iola, and if driving home, you know where i'll be!!!!!! BTTT for you
Congrats on pulling this off! I'll be there in spirit, and will be cheering you on from here...And peeking at the website for reports on how it goes!
PbR...Thanx for the heads up.....Hey fellow bloody....would yo be interested in helpin out? PM me for details! Thanx...NICK
Alrighty, heere's the poop. We have 2 bands, the Uptown Savages, and REV 500(early instrumental-picture Dick Dale with Link Wray's head and a pair of shoes from the Ventures... I play guitar innit, shameless plug! , and we're looking for another band... The car show is gonna be bitchin, and we're gonna feature home-builts and period cars from the 50's/60's. It's the 50th anniversary of continuous operation at the track this year, and we want everyone to have FUN above all else. Some of the featured racers will be running altereds, gassers, F.E.D.'s, and some nitro cars. No idea on personalities, but I'm sure the bench-racing alone is gonna be worth the price... Oh yeah, Broadway Bob should be there. It's also an open racing day, so anyone can race if they want(normal fees and tech inspection apply). Swappers are welcome, and there is a new bar onsite. I'm sure there's more to say but I don't remember things like I used to... Anyway, if I get a couple pics by next week of people who are bringing their cars , they'll be on the flier. Any car clubs that are coming for sure are gonna get mentioned also... But I gotta know by next week so I can get the info to the owners of the track. Nick and I are still ironing out car show stuff, and any ideas/concerns/comments are greatly appreciated. I wanna have a loud pipe contest and a flame-shootin' competition sometime during the day... The pits are open to all spectators(no extra fee to walk around). I know it's the same weekend as Iola, but that's what they gave us to work with... You can hunt parts up nort' Saturday, and hang at the track Sunday Any questions, either pm or email Nick or myself. Hopefully I'll have the dragster at least visually presentable by then...
I'm sure members of the Chrome Czars will be there. Also, Django and I are in a rockabilly band if you still need one, let one of us know http://www.hotrodhucksters.com congrats on pulling this off!
Thanx Dietrich! Great add on info! Hellfish it'll be great to see your club guys there, Also if anyone reads this, & plans on going...Do us a favor & show this post to your hot rod buddy that may not know about this. THANX
Alright guys, if anyone that's coming wants a picture of their car on the color flier for the event, send me a picture as soon as you can. The owners of the track are putting it together and want some pics. This is a good chance to get your billetproof rides featured! My email is wmsecartunes@hotmail.com, or send me a PM. We're working on a special HAMB area if enough people are interested/make the show.
yee haa.... looks like a go for me!!!! heading to Iola for the weekend and heading out early sunday to see the beloved track!!!!! O'yah and the cars/friends
My buddy's got a '39 Topolino Gas/Altered that he ran at "The Grove" in the 60's/70's...It also was an ISCA showcar...pearl paint, scallops, injected smallblock...I'm working on him to drag it out and bring it to the show...I'm about 80% sure it will be there...
How about a link to the track if it has a site. Tim - I'd like to see something like this at the Island too. Lebanon Valley has a Nostalgia Drag day.
carartNICK I may have access to original photos of the drag strip under construction and photos of 60's Union Grove drag races. Lynn Bennett was one of the major driving forces behind the beginning and success of the Union Grove dragstrip, along with the Artists and Mellotones Car Clubs from Milwaukee and Wauwatosa. A large portion of the construction, grading etc. was done by car club, hot rodder and racer type volunteers and most were teenage, wrench in hand, grease under the finger nails, we're coming for your daughters types. Their is a group of guys, that helped build and raced Union Grove during the 50's, that have annual or semi annual reunions, I will contact them, also. You had mentioned that a Union Grove dragstrip history booth is possible. I need more info and if you are interested in "old guy, old rulers" help or involvement.
Hi Curt..., I think that MFS should record you for your Rod and Custom intellectual properties...! Hey Nick..., You couldn't get a better Hotrod historian than OG 001 (Curt)
Hello Mark, last time I was asked to record any information, the question put to me, on a very early Saturday morning in 1979 was "how do we stop all the cruising and the four bleach burn out areas on Hwy 100?". I thought my answers were helpful and constructive but, Saturday night, sitting in a very secure concrete and iron bar 8' by 8' room, I was having second thoughts. Some intellectual properties, hey? Anyway, history is great, must be shared and hot rodders are still the most interesting. Curt.
Learn from VLV, ban chain drive wallets, chinese umbrellas and cherry purses. Get some big bouncers and keep bottles out of the pits. Get pretty girls to back the race cars up. Try to be nice to the old geezers. Get something, anything that burns Nitro and LOTS of it to make a pass. I wish I could be there to support you guys. Old school drag racing RULES. cp
