This is on my T-bucket and it is just dead, I need to replace it but have had no luck finding out what it is. I even brought it to the parts store and we searched everywhere with no luck. The numbers on it aren't readable. I either need to find another one of these or something that can replace this. Any help would be great, thanks
Now that is an incredibly helpful post, thanks for that. I did a search at napa for that and came up empty, would you happen to have a part number? From what? I have read a 67 Mustang master is a good one, any ideas?
the mustang master is widely used . its a real good choice. and readily availible at any parts store. id spend a few extra bucks and get the new one. not reman.
The Mustang has the jar lid like screw on cap; that one with the center hold down bolt looks like the 60-62 Chevy pickup that had the dual master cylinders, one for brake and one for clutch.
That pic above looks a lot like Chevy truck to me, but not the dual siamesed one. So, I'd look at an automatic trans 60 to 62 Chevy truck. The Auto trans would have the single master...OR... look at 63 Chevy pickup with standard or auto trans. But, somewhere around maybe 64? Chevy truck changed the bolt pattern to straight across, not the diagonal pattern like the pic looks to be?. Carquest stores used to have illustrations/dimensions for whatever stock number of cylinder you could get. I don't recall if it was Carquest brand book or a brand they carried. That way you can look at the Chevy truck ones to see if it matches yours without ordering one to see.
raidmagic....gee, somebody commented on the deplorable condition of your master cylinder (you provided the picture, not us) and you take umbrage at his desultory intentions? If you're going to show us "stuff", irrespective of your question, we get to talk about it. Everything in that photo looks neglected...I'll assume - for your sake - that you bought it that way. Hotrodders really don't let stuff get that bad, the OTHER kind of rodders do...the ones that CELEBRATE rust.... We're always happy to help, but if you're walking around with your zipper down...we're likely to mention it. In a purely 'helpful' way, you understand. dj
I am rebuilding a neglected car, parts are going to look crappy untill they can be addressed. When I am looking for a replacement part a post stating the original isn't any good really isn't helpful. I didn't insult said member I responded to his post. Now had I posted that picture with a title of "hey, look, my brakes are done!" I could see the usefullness in his response. When asking for an ID for replacement that isn't a useful post. I realize it isn't in good shape and don't need someone to point out the obivous. I don't celebrate rust and implying that I would allow my car to rot like that is an insult. This place has been helpfull beyond what I could expect, I'm always sure to get back in a thread I asked questions in and thank those that responded.
That was where I started looking but had no luck finding the single, duals are easy to find but won't fit there. I'm going to go with the Mustang master and redo all the brake lines. Thanks for your input.
I was just rethinking the Chevy ones. It's been a long time, but I recall some replacements came in two bowl shapes. One was rectangle and the more common rebuilt was a round cover with a snap bail holder. Hope you can find a store with a good counter guy
Hope you can find a store with a good counter guy[/QUOTE] I hope he can, too! That's mighty hard to find now days.
Most Carquest stores have an excellent set of hardcopy catalogs with pictures and cross reference. I have been sucessful in finding listings for some rather off the wall parts. Give them a try. Good luck.
the one on my friends '69 chevy c-30 dump looks just like it, single reservoir mechanical clutch. it was cheaper to have whitepost sleeve and rebuild it than buy new.
Thanks for all the tips guys, I ordered a new Mustang dual reservoir master. It came in today but I'm feeling to crappy to go pick it up. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow.
1962 Chevy MC according to the Dorman site. They have a very interesting site with listing for every almost every car along with pictures: www.dormanproducts.com
