Not as cool as most of the finds I see on here, but thought I would post anyway.
the old guy used to have a Late 20's ford Roadster I think??? but gave it to his brother, plus a few other oldies. all gone but this one. I thought he was going to tell me a price, then said he wasn't ready to sell it yet!

Honestly I'm suprised he's still alive:eek:, had some health issues then. I first met him about 5 years ago when he showed me all his other treasures, now all gone.:(

1948 Fleetmaster plus parts car, Whats the difference between fleetline and fleetmaster? I'm not as familiar with Chevys.

Well I can't tell from the photos you posted, but, if that car doesn't have a quarter gl*** behind the rear door, its a four door Fleetline.

For instance, if the parts car is the brown one in the back ground, then it looks to have the quarter gl*** behind the rear door. NOT A KEEPER! However, if as I mentioned the quarter gl*** is absent, (that is there is only steel after the rear door where it shuts), then you my friend have a four door Fleetline.

This would be a good thing, as four door Fleetlines, also known as, "German Helmets", are worth just as much, sometimes more, than an Areosedan two door Fleetline. This is because there were not as many "German Helmets" made.

It should be noted that the Fleetline was Chevy's highest model for the '42-'52 model years; although there is a body design change for the '49-'52 model years. But, you don't have to take my word for it. After all, I'm just a girl.

Hispanic guys and girls like this model Chevy quite a bit; if you decide you don't like the car, a member of the "Bomb Squad" would probably strike a deal....(that is only speculation on my part of course).

Thanks for the Info, now I can't remember seeing the rear quarter gl***?? seems like I figured it did (just like the parts car did?) Hmmm may require a second peek in a few months to see if he's ready to sell yet?

Oh, and I'll take your word for it, Why does being a girl have anything to do with it? some of the smartest people ive met were girls :)
"Bomb Squad", I'll remember that. any idea what this could be worth? has the original straight 6 in it.

    Thanks again

Hot Rod Michelle, you really have Chevy knowledge down.
I think the 4 door being worth more than an Aero is a California thing. In my neck of the woods the Aero is the cool one.

Yea totally! Here in So-Cali the four door Fleetlines, and only the Fleetlines, are worth more; and that is only to a select few homies. So your right, the two door Areosedans are generally a better catch; plus there's so much more one can do with them: bomb, sled, street rod, custom....etc.

Oh, and I only made the crack about being a girl, because some guys don't want to take my word as being worth much. At least this has been my personal experience. Men look at me and have said...and I quote, "your too pretty to know about cars."

Anyway, that is not to say this always happens, just that when it does it kinda ****s.
    ok, later.

That "girl" thing really irritates my wife..."Flower" gets questions about her roadster and when the person finds out that she built it herself..........they usually just walk away saying "yeah, sure".

Hey Michelle, good on you for not letting the *******s get you down! My mom was the one who taught me everything about carpentry, electrical, and masonry work. Oh yeah, and when we were kids, she helped us build a go kart with steering and brakes. She test drove it down the hill first!

  10. Just tell them you're also too pretty to waste your time on them...

Pretty sure that one is a Fleetmaster, the 6 windowed sedan, and not a Fleetline. Doesn't look to have the fender trim that Fleetlines have on them. Still a neat car, really good shape, I bet with a wash and detail it'd look real nice.

yep, If I was to pick this up (if and when he's ready to sell) I would probably just wash/wax it , drive it a little bit,and try to make a buck or two off it? I'm more of a Ford type but I love anything old.
I think the trim piece said "FleetMaster"

"Pretty and know about Cars" A double plus, Heck I'm glad to get any help I can find, Lord knows I need it! :)

Yes, it might be a Fleetmaster. I can not tell with out turning my monitor sideways; and even then the picture does not show enough of the side profile. However, do realize, that the car has been repainted as that shade of teal was not available until the late 1950's. Teal was never an option for the '48 color chart; I've seen an original color chart when I was researching and restoring mine (see self profile for photos and referencing). So, that being said, it is entirely possible that someone may have removed the "speed stripes" and replaced the name badges after the repaint. This of course is conjecture on my part, but, it is a possibility.

Ok, thanks to everyone for your support and comments.
    Later, Michelle

Well, it's been a little while; I recently sold a chevy heater on here and had quite few people interested in it after the fact so I thought maybe this guy has a spare one or parts for one to help someone out.

Well he was ready this time to sell everything, both cars, 2 complete engines one machined block. tons of other inline 6 parts. A bunch of oldsmobile parts, heads, a block (not sure if its a 350 yet or not?) Its pretty greasy and have yet to bring it home yet. bunch of new in box MSD stuff I think for the Olds. misc other stuff.

Anyway, I have already moved the parts car and Saturday morning I grab my helper and we go get the one out of the tent,

He helped me air up the tires and I couldn't have winched it onto the trailer by myself (at least not as quickly :) ) had a few obstacles to get in there straight.

    Cheers

    Josh

JF...looks like it cleaned up nice! Hopefully you got it around the price you had emailed.

That is a Fleetmaster...same as the one I have listed. Not quite as slick as a fleetline, but will be a hell of a family cruiser.

Looks like you had a great helper! Hopefully he'll stay involved as you bring the old chevy back to life.

It was a bit more than what he initially told me, his wife told me after the fact that he was or wanted to just give it to me!!!! I dont think I could have done that, but ....?? with all the misc parts and tools that came with it and the MSD ignition parts etc Its all good.

btw thanks for your help in answering some of my questions.

    Cheers

Thats what I wondered too :) they are both pretty complete cars.

going to look at the brakes, (pedal goes to floor so probably needs a new MC check everything over and see if she'll run.. Odometer only shows 2,442 miles. I don't think its rolled over once? but who knows??? I have some inspection reciepts from 1979 for a 48 Chevy that only had 259 miles then so ???

LOL,, ya actually did... after I got the car loaded up yesterday she asked if I wanted the tent. I didn't turn her down but I didn't jump up and down for it either. I think the tent is probably staying where it is! :) lol

I'm not sure of the spirit in which the comment was made, but you could look at it as a double compliment. You were told you were pretty and were also acknowledged for you knowledge of cars.

Most guys are surprised when a woman is so knowledgeable about the subject. You have to admit it is somewhat unusual a**** the general population. I think that most car guys would think it's cool as hell! I know I do!

Chances are the seals in the mc and wheel cylinders are dry, pour in brake fluid and see if they will eventually hold fluid. You might need to fill the system a few times before you are able to bleed the brakes for the first time.

    ...It's always worth a shot.

good tips thanks! I filled the MC and unloaded it from the trailer, and the brakes worked! a little touchy but Im sure after a bit of bleeding and miles maybe ok, well see.

    Cheers
