I am looking to build a model a speedster. I like the look of the cowl steering, but I am looking to do something different with RHD. I have searched the forums for this and come up confused. I see posts about reversed corvair and vega boxes, but I am unsure about which I would need for rhd and cowl steering. I think I need a reversed corvair box along with rhd spindles. Is this correct? Am I missing anything?

  2. PSI makes (made) a dragster steering box that exited the cowl on the right - maybe they can help.

most steering boxs will work if you want right hand steering. you wont need to reverse a corvair box.

check out stripers build thread , he used a local holden box and made it cowl steering, I would think you could do the same. as for the spindles, yes you will need a pair of RHD ones, they come up on Aussie ebay often if you want originals, or just do like a lot of locals do and use the US ones in reverse.

Bill, I was planning on using one of the new flaming river corvair boxes. Why do others reverse the box if this is not needed? I believe that if you are looking at the cowl on the left of the vehicle for a lhd application, cw rotation would cause the vehicle to turn left and ccw would cause the vehicle to turn right. This would be opposite the way the steering wheel is turned. If you were to put the box on the other side of the car, the same would apply. The same box would be used, just mounted upside down.

flatoz, if you use the originals in reverse, this would put the tie rod in front of the beam. What problems would it create as far as the tie rod in front of the beam?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

reverse as in side to side, so the tierod enters from the bottom not the top. At least that is what is done here in Australia ( RHD) The originals of course the tierod entered from the top, so as I said, if you want you can keep an eye out on Aussie ebay for an originial set of spindles as in RHD ford items, but you will need to heat and bend the steering arms if your using a dropped axle.

however, there are cars out there with the arms going out the front such as T buckets.
