Hillbilly Engineering, reminds me of a guy that used to be at the illegal drags in north Portland in the late 50s. He had a 37-40 Mopar coupe with a rear engine (sideways mounted) HEMI. Had chain drive off the flywheel to a solid mounted "live" axle. We used to "clear out" when we heard that thing fire up. Rolling start only and used to go only the way the rear wheels were lined up, would hit the dirt a half track usually. Those were the days!!...........OLDBEEET
That flathead powered dune buggy looks like it would fit the H.A.M.B. dragster rules with the addition of a roll bar hoop.....
While I'm looking for the Weird folder.... Not so long ago yards used to have all kinds of wierd tow and utility stuff. My favorites were the big 20s and 30s Cadillacs, Packards, Pierce Arrow, etc long wheelbase touring and sedans that had the bodies removed from the front seat back and some kind of twin boom tow apparatus installed. Those were real cool.
Thanks for the Dune buggie link and Weird ones post, makes me wish I had snapped some pics of some of the weird/utility type builds I've seen over the years. Some interesting stuff, made you wonder what there thought process was when some of it was built.
Dont have a clue. I picked it out of a box of photos at a flea market. Just thought it was cool with the giant bling-bling wheels!
Those would be called gin poles. I wish I had a pic, I worked on an oil lease in SE KS in the mid '70s that had a boom truck That was duece from the cowel forward. it had a big Y block for a mill, and the worlds knarlyiest tranny with PTO of unknown origin to drive the cable drum. The gin poles were 14 ft long (made from drill pipe). The chassis and rear was some sort of a farm truck. And just for safteys sake it had a headach rack with some expanded metal behind your head (actually my shoulders unless I really scrunched down in the seat). Now close your eyes and get a picture of it. When you put it in gear with the PTO running it sounded like a grist mill grinding corn.
Golf course mower, the wide steel wheels mash down the track left by the steer tires, in theory at least.
These are a couple of pics I've had for awhile. The school bus/plow/ramptruck was found in St. Joe Missouri. The Impala coupe was somewhere in New Mexico, or Arizona. Anybody know about either one?
dude how bout a home made wrecker for you then your dont got just think bout it? I got a 39 chev truck my grampa made intoo a wrecker back in 50s sitting in woods at my parents i will take pics next time i get out there but i will swap it off in a second just cant junk it to many good parts on it
Back in the late 60's I used to help my buddy buck hay for his grandfather. He had 2 old horse drawn hay wagons built on 32 ford frames. Farmers didn't throw much away.
Here's one my Dad and his buddies built when they were kids. 21 stud flatty w/ toploader bolted to a fordson tractor rear, an 37 frame with a model A front axle.
How about this one? Looks like it just got dragged out of the woods, huh? I built it last year. It's a shortened '47 Stude pickup frame with a '25 Chevy cowl and hood, shortened mid-20's GMC bed, '34 Plymouth truck fenders (I think), '24 Chandler headlights, '28 Model A grille and rad, '18 Hupmobile seat, front bumper is a buggy spring, and who knows what the windshield is from. This is what happens when I get bored. I call it a '26 Oakland to confuse people, but the only thing on it that's Oakland is the badge on the radiator.
Vern Tardel's place is always fun for a few flathead novelties. Was up there about 6-8 months ago. Seems someone brought him this crazy, home made tractor. He also had a wood chipper or was it an Ice/Snow blower nearby? Can't remember. Mike

FIX UP? What and ruin all that patina? That T is one of several T tractor conversions a friend has, he likes to leave them in the condition he finds them but get them running. I'm looking for the disk that has photos of another T Doodle Bug that I have to pick up
