More of a street truck person, so I know it as a body drop, but anyways... Was looking for a older truck to do a bobber build, (which I hear you guys love ) but I found a 41 chevy cab with the front sheet metal. So I'm thinking of doing a full custom frame and modern suspension on bags. This truck as lots of potential, but I have two little problems with it. Nothings ever low enough for me and there seems to be a little to much going on the top grill area. So I guess my question is, would anyone have any pictures of late 30's, early 40's trucks with channeled cabs with full fenders and sectioned hoods? Thanks, Will
There's a truck that shows up at the ***berland MD rod round up that sounds like what you want. Try searching pictures from that show here and on the internet. Being new I would sugest using an S-10 frame for your project. It will get you low without the channel. Actually what you want would be a chopped and sectioned truck. That would get your overall hieght down. Doing the S-10 frame can get the runningboards on the ground without channeling. Clark
clark, can you make the pic bigger & do you need a snow plow to get to the shop ? or did the 48 do the job !!!
That truck looks pretty good and would look with a full hood and no air scoop but======== But you had better sit your **** in the truck you are looking at and decide how ^^uch roo^^ you do or don't have before doing too ^^uch cutting. Stock they are pretty cra^^pd if you intend to drive any distance unless you are around 5'0" tall.
That's exactly what I'm talking about with the front end. Thanks, now I'm even more excited to try and get this transaction going. And as far as the frame, I was thinking about using the front end geometry and parts from an S-10 but fab a frame using flthd31's technique. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=306987 Thanks, Will
Mine is channeled 5" over an S-10 frame, stock height suspention,no chop, and the top of the roof is still elbow level!
My daughters 49 F1 PU is sitting on a 80s Mercury Grand Marquis car frame. Is not really channeled though since the floor of the cab is stock height. I just had to cut a lot of the cab mounts away and the bottoms of the inner fenders and the bottom of the bed and then make my own brackets to bolt them to the frame with cushioning. I would suggest a different frame as I widened the front fenders 3 inches so far and I am still looking to get front rims with more back spacing. No sectioning though. In the las picture, you can see how I made the bracket to bolt to the frame. I used Stall Mat (recycled rubber that you stand on for the cushioned mounts) and bolts with nylock nuts. Oh yeah, its not shiney.......YET (will be), it was just raining that day.
