Today a friend of mine that sells new cars asked me why I like hotrods….Pardon the rant , but……
    Wheres my fucking flying car?
Yeah remember you promised .. I saw the goddam thing gracing the pages of Popular Science when I was a kid in the 50’s.
“By the year 2000 you’ll be riding in something like this” they touted .
It was beautiful, It was chrome , and had one of those girls with the big Dagmars and a beehive hairdo standing seductively next to it.
Fucking Liars!!!!! Its 2005 , and what did you give us ? PT freakin Cruisers and Mazda Miatas. The cars don’t even look like silver spaceships. They look like suppositories and for all the flying you can do in them you may just as well shove them up your ass.
So who do I complain to? General Motors/Saturn/Kia/Renault? Chrysler Daimler/ Benz/ Jeep/Simca? Or Ford/Jaguar/Landrover/ Mazda?
What the hell happened? I feel like I was slipped some daterape drug and been buttfucked for the past 40 years…
But heres the good news… You can pay for the goddam thing over SEVEN years, AND get a rebate.
And then you Detroit fuckknobs have the balls to ask why I want a basic hodrod?

Robert Fulton built one here in Connecticut, used to fly it out of Danbury Airport. I think he gave it to the Smithsonian.

I think flying cars are now called "airplanes".
I know for sure that what was once known as a "bus" is now called Delta Airlines.

I remember riding on one 34 years ago. I was 7. A man had one in a shopping center parking lot. He took each of us one at a time and hovered a few inches off the ground. Real George Jetson looking with a horizontal fan in the middle. So if you have any tech questions, i'm a pioneer.

  15. Anyone remember that flying Pinto? You just land at the airstrip, detach the wing and drive off.

Oh man, I remember that shitbox. I had a 71 pinto back in the 70's for a winter crasher and we made jokes about this winged pinto setup and what a bomb (Literally) it would be.

    Here's your robot; http://www.honda-robots.com/index_ori.html

The jet pack is unstable-nuts and too short fuel flight time to be anything but an emergency "escape-vehicle," but the back pack gyro-stabalized unicycles Syd Mead dreamed up back in the 60's might be cool. (Wish I could fond one on the web...)

I heard that Barris air car never actually "flew" but was on casters...

If I/we built a hovercraft, (I've been thinking about building a small one, looked at plans!) for the street, would we have to license it thru the DMV or the FAA?
Or will I have to just be happy "playing" with in in my own expansive 400sq' back yard?

Um, I think robots already do build cars. The UAW has been fighting it for years.

Actually I think most hovercraft are licensed as watercraft. They really aren't all that manuverable on land(such as trying to negotiate a street)and are more suited to travel over water where there is more margin for error if you move the controls the wrong way.
I think the biggest problem with development of air cars was obtaining a suitable power/weight ratio. Most automotive engines(save aircooled VW's)are far too heavy to power an aircraft successfully(i.e.:to let it take off and land easily and still deliver reasonable fuel mileage).
The human factor is an even bigger obstacle.I think the majority of drivers on the road today would be incapable of making the split-second decisions necessary to keep an aircraft from plummeting to earth. I'm sure that few of us(save the few who are suicidal but too afraid to do it themselves)would want to come face to face with some clown pumped up on crystal or drunk out of his mind piloting an out of control airplane. The old argument about there being a lot of space to fly around in just doesn't stand up in the face of nearly 300 million people in this country alone and maybe half of them with licenses. Scary thought.
Anyway I too grew up in the early 50's and saw the covers of psuedo-science magazines littered with pictures of the cars of tomorrow and dreamed of the day when this would all be reality. Well folks;the future is here for us and it doesn't look so promising.Guess I'm just getting old and lost the ability to dream.

They seem to have a hard enough time making Hybrid cars that don't spontaneously combust at 3am in the morning. Perhaps we should give the "automotive" genius's some time to figure out things before they put us flying the skies....

My Friend Sandy's "Car of the Future Hybrid Prius" :

I would love to buy a new car that looked like the Ford Atmos!

I think I could even put up with the irritating salesmen and maybe even smile while I signed the check! :)

Unfortunately, the World of Tomorrow sucks! I dread the thought of having to buy another new car. But, the day will come when I need the reliability of a new one. So, I'll just pick the least offensive blob off the lot like I did the last time! :(

yes hovercrafts are cosidered watercrafts and do handle very pourly on anything that is not very smooth. they also only float about an inch off the groud from where there skirt is. I work for a company that builds custom industrial boats and we are as we speak starting our second hovercraft, so I'm not entirely talking out my ass. but I have heard they are fun to drive, so I say some one hear should build the first hotrod hovercraft, flat black with a red skirt,LOL.
