Does anyone know if there are ten spoked aluminium wheels being manufactured that can be made to look like the old original wooden wheels of the 1920's ?
Perhaps something that looks like the wheels on this old Olds, or the style common back "in the day".

  2. I've never seen new ones. I bet you could get them made if you were willing to spend the $$$$

  3. You can have them made. I have an article about a 32 sedan delivery street rod that has billet ones painted to look like wooden wheels.

I have never seen anything like this around either.

I bet there would be a market for something like this, among both restorers and rodders, that need a safe modern approved wheel, with the old original wooden style and look.

It may have been the same car, but I saw an article in a British magazine about a guy that did exactly that. But he ordered them specially made just for himself.
Just wondering if any wheel manufacturer has caught onto the idea, and if they are commercially available somewhere.

Got any old big series Austins from the mid 30s down here? I had a 36 English taxi and they used cast steel spoke wheels that looked like painted wood wheels. I don't recall the tire size though, must have been skinny and tall.

here is a google pic and you also can see the spare tire on the car next to it. I just don't recall the series number, but maybe an Austin 12 ...or 10? Supposed to be the biggest Austin.

  7. Jimmy Shine had some on his 2004ish Ford f-150. They were billet and made by Boyd Coddington. They looked just like the wheels he has on his model A truck. Check So-Cal's website....they might have pics.

I recall Wheel Vintique (Fresno) or one of those in the early '80s advertising wooden spoke wheels. (they might have been the same as the Model A Sedan in the link)
They had them pictured on a "Custom Van".
I'm sure some of you guys will remember them... I also saw an ad in R&C or Street Rodder, but it was a long time ago.

    Funny you mention this.
A friend of mine wants to do just this- wood grain spoke wheels & spent the day at GNRS talking to all the wheel venders. One said he could duplicate his wood wheels in aluminum & then wood grain paint them.
All for the reasonable price of $2,000..............................each!

Yup, that is the exact same model A I was thinking of.

A real sleeper if ever there was one, and it goes around corners pretty well too.
    My kind of car.

Neat! I have a neighbor with a 1930 Olds coupe I was looking at Saturday. It doesn't have the grill on it though so I didn't know what the whole front was supposed to look like.
