A early bronco 1966_ 1977 is a perfect 59" and a 5 1/2 bolt pattern. Also a 1940 early ford is just right as well but not as strong as the 9 inch. A 1955_57 chevy rear will work as well but a smaller bolt pattern.

I have measured my body trying to make an educated guess and i came up with needing one around 61 inches... I also have a 47 ford p***enger banjo but im running a pretty hot big block ford and a four speed...

  4. 57-59 Ford/Edsel car rearend if you want a 9" and 5 on 4 1/2" pattern in most cases. Some Edsels have 5 on 5" like a Chevy pickup and others.
Mustang 8" and 9" rearends are also similar in widths.
What powertrain combo? Enclosed driveline or open driveshaft? Wheel bolt pattern? Style matching front brake choice and wheel pattern?

I believe you are close with the 61" guess.. I used a 9" out of a late 60's or 70's full size truck on my sedan.. 61" or 62".. Also had 5x5 1/2" bolt pattern..........

S**** metal you just answered my question!!! My rear is out of a early 60 f series truck. I never realized how much wider the sedan is than the coupe! What rear tire are you running on the sedan? Nice cars by the way!!!

That sedan in that pic is channeled.. you said yours is a highboy. A true highboy could use a narrower rear than that, because the tires will still be in the wheel wells.

True but it is gonna be a fairly low hiboy? About the stance of Brian B***'s coupe. And looking at pics of the coupe he has quite a bit of room between the tire and body and the sedan is a lot wider than the coupe. I think im just gonna have to set the tires on both sides of the body and measure the rear end width im gonna need. Is there no one out there with a hiboy sedan with a tire close to this size? My dad has a 29 coupe with a 57 ford wagon 9 inch in it but his car at its widest point is 47 inches my sedan right above the wheel well is 52.5!! So im sure im gonna need a wider rear end.

yep, worked out nicely on mine as well. gives me approx. 2 inches of clearance with the body. even though i have bigger wheels, the backing plate and sidewall are in the same plane.

The tires on the sedan are 8.20x15", 5 1/2" wide.. I agree, even if it doesn't sit quite this low, I still think you'll need the width.. Good luck on your project........
