I tightened my flywheel up pretty snug today and it is still rattling. Should I go tighter or is there a possibility that there is another solution or problem?? Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
trans type and make? if its an automatic, either loose converter to flex plate bolts OR the flexplate is cracked. if its the latter, time for a replacement!
I guess you're talking about an auto trans and flex plate. More than likely cracked. Time for a new one. Loc***e is your friend here.
it is a th350. they are the right bolts they are the ones that came off of it!! so more than likely it is cracked?
"I tightened my flywheel up pretty snug" ... My first thought was "what are the torque specs?" ... You need to find out what is causing the rattle ... once you have done that (and replaced any parts) your flywheel/flexplate should be torqued to spec and loc***ed. Could be a cracked flexplate, could be a loose starter, could be a loose torque converter ... you need to find out what the cause is. As for "will loc***e get me home?" ... that depends on where you are, where home is, and what exactly is causing the rattle. A simple answer would be "No ... just adding loc***e to your flexplate bolts will not help fix a cracked flexplate if that is indeed your problem".
ok didnt torque it or use locite!! its been ahwile since i drove it and was running late to work so just tightened it with wrenches the took off
NO NO NO! Referring to when you put the new flexplate in. I can only ***ume here that it's been 'rattling' for some time now? And-no disrespect meant here- but that's kind of like asking "will one lug nut on the wheel get me home?" The answer is, how lucky do ya feel? Small problems turn into big problems without any sort of inspecting. Get your eyeballs down there and see what's wrong. My luck is ****ty-I wouldn't make it down the block. I hope you have better luck than me.
Sorry, you just "tightened the flexplate bolts with a wrench and took off". I'm not sure what bolts you are talking about now. Are you meaning the bolts (6 if i recall correctly) that hold the flexplate to the crank or are you talking about the (generally 3) bolts that hold the torque convertor to the flexplate .... or are you talking about something else entirely? Crank bolts aren't something a person "just snugs up" before going out for a drive ... I don't think we are picturing exactly what you are talking about.
if i bring it by mitch would u beable to tell just by hearing it? i work at northrup right here by your shop
Or bolt hole to bolt hole at the hub or between the webs in the middle of the big holes in the face of the flexplate.
I ain't trying to bag on you but damn-that's part of what's wrong with this world-where it's easier to text a message to an internet forum via cell phone for info than to get on your *** and look underneath the car and actually see what's wrong! Slow down. Take your time to survey the issue, fix it once and fix it right. Sorry man. Had to vent that one out. Smiley faces.
I was wondering too what the heck bolts you tightened, you can"t get to the flex-plate bolts with the torque hooked to the thing. If all you tightened were the coverter bolts you havn"t helped anything. If you don"t have far to go home take it easy if you feel lucky. If the thing quits pulling you just broke the center out of the flex-plate.
sorry bro but im at work and its a little hard. so i figured if i can get help and have the problem trouble shooted then i can fix it tomorrow
Not yet. Lol. Been working everyday this week no time. I'm also gonna pull the ****** and have Mitch check it out for me having some internal problems! And while that's being done I'm gonna take care of some interior sheetmetal work to keep the exhaust fumes out!! Its hard to get into the garage alone when each time I go out my 20 month old has to be there with me if not he standing at the door crying knocking and calling my name. Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
