Is it feasible and rather simple, to install a neutral safety switch on a Mercury standard shift? Too many accidents happen when working on a car and forget to check to see if its in gear before starting. Mine starts on about 1/2 a revolution. Thanks for any advice or comments. Ted

It would require two switches, one for each lever. Right?

  4. ***uming it is a stick transmission , put the neutral safety switch on your clutch linkage.....that's where it is on my daily driver `95 S-10 with a 5-speed

Usually they put a switch on the clutch pedal that won't let the starting circuit energize unless the clutch pedal is pushed in. It's a PITA when working on a car but it works. No reaching through the window to start it.

The easy way is to put a brake light switch like this one in the wire to the solenoid. It would need to be adjusted so that the switch is made when the clutch pedal is floored. If the clutch pedal is up no current gets to the solenoid. Push in the pedal and it starts right up.

Pretty easy, and only one switch required. Get a roller typoe micro switch and install it with start wiring going through the contacts. Set it so the roller closes the sw. when it's in neutral or park, whichever you prefer. I rarely use both, so no need to wire it top start in either. Of course if you do want both, then two sw. are required.
Oops! A std., so use the roller micro sw. on the clutch linkage. Most Home Depot or Lowe's have them.

  8. You can connect to the stop light switch with a 4 pole solenoid
