I'm going to need some chrome plating done in the near future as well. Anyone use Industrial Plating in San Carlos or Superior in San Jose? Thanks, Tom
I wonder if Superior is still owned by the same guy? His Mom Lived across the street from me growing up..I havent talked to him in years though.
I use Valley Plating exclusively. I've always been more than happy with their work. http://sjvalleyplating.com/ 491 Perry Court Santa Clara, CA 95054-2624 (408) 988-5502
anyone know how much this costs now days? Was checking out Sherms, probably want the Polished Chrome.
Been a while. Is industrial plating theone iwth ethe older chinese guy and his son? If so ... they do good work.
I'm not really sure who is there, but someone else I know said they do pretty good work but it's pricey.
Good question, anyone give a ball park example of part/cost? I'm sure alot has to do with the condition of the part itself and like paint, the money and quality is all in the prep work.
I used superior in San Jose to plate steering column parts, they did a nice job but Plating is expensive. That said, it wasn't so much money that I walked away. Later I returned and had several other pieces on the car plated.<O</O
I used Valley Plating and am very happy with my bumpers. Years ago I used Industrial in San Carlos and was very unhappy. But that was a long time ago.
Walker's custom plating in Shasta does all our work which is Pebble Beach worthy, he's very experienced, Very reasonable, and fast turnaround. I have friends that come up here on a regular basis from San Jose, and could bring your stuff up here for you, just a thought. Max.
There are a lot of plating shops. It isn't easy to find one that does the quality of work you want/need, at a price you are willing to pay, who doesn't loose too many parts, and will get the work done sometime during your lifetime. While it's more convenient to find someone close by, it isn't unusual for plating to be sent to other states because that's where the best plater for you is located. Some people even have the metal finishing done by one person and the plating done by another.
Sherms is the way to go. That extra drive will pay off big time for you. I commute from Vallejo to Hayward everyday and it's a major pain the ***. Castro Valley to Sac on a weekend is a piece of cake.
If it's a cost issue go somewhere cheaper. If you want the best go to Sherms. What was that old saying? Pay the price or do it Twice!
If you decide to use sherms I can help you out with pu/delivery so you dont have to ship. I work in the Hayward San Jose area weekly as well as sac. I live less than 30 min from sherms. Pm me if youd like, I would be glad to help ya out if possible. NO CHARGE.
I know them and was still quoted 5 grand to do my 35 grill and its very nice - not bent- pit free They are all about servicing the hero builders of millionaires cars . There are plenty of quality shops out there that have realistic prices.
Gringo thanks for the idea. Pebble Beach and good value are rarely mentioned in the same sentence. Are these guys in Shasta good value? You clearly know your stuff, so bring the knowledge.
I been thinking of trying Ogden chrome , I met them at GNRS seemed very nice. Free pick up and delivery. I asked what happens if I didn't like the price. The rep said it still free and they will sent it back no charge to me. An old thread had a few HAMBer liking their work. Any body with any good or bad to say? Hope this isn't a hijack I know you were looking for bay area but with free shipping both way it might be food for thought. Check out their website.
No question that's a lot of money. But is it really unrealistic? The cost of quality is not linear. The higher the quality, the less improvement gained from investing additional time and effort. At the low end of the scale, doubling the time and effort allows a major increase in quality. When quality is already high, doubling the time and effort yields a very small increase in quality. When you go from really nice to jewelry quality the cost vs benefit curve gets very steep. It is the same for paint jobs, precision machine work, audio equipment, and pretty much anything else that's available in different quality levels. It is possible the plater is charging a premium just because he is that good and people will pay it, but odds are the market keeps his prices close to realistic for what he is providing.
Used both Sherms and Industrial Plating years ago. Neither were cheap, but Sherms seemed more into doing quality automotive plating. At the time, Industrial Plating seemed to care less about doing old car plating work. Sherms parts are more exposed to the weather and are still in better condition than the Industrial Plating parts.
Good input Russ B. I am down the road from you in San Mateo. Anybody else in the chrome business? Man, I should open a shop, it's a near monopoly right now.
Well if you want to see some Valley Plating work that is 5 or so years old. And is in San Mateo, drop on by.
i got a quote from sherms and aaa plating to do the dash on my 51 plymouth and sherms was within a 150 bucks of aaa.
