I am looking to replace the rear coil springs in my 68 impala fastback. I want to rais the back end up some and was wanting to know if coil springs made for a wagon would fit and achieve the results I am after?
More than likely, they will fit and bring the back up some. However, a good place to ask this would be chevytalk.org. They have specific sections regarding years of cars, and i'm sure someone on there may have done the swap, or could give you some solid advice from experience. Best of luck, Tony
What's the point anymore. It seems like they are getting worse everyday. It's easier to give them the answer and hope they go away....
I have a 65 impala ss and years ago I did have station wagon springs that I pulled from the junkyard (in the mid 80's) car had a nasty rake and the ride was very rough. Currently: if you look in my album you will see the difference between the ride heights. pic with torque thrust d's has std moog back coils with moog 6304 in front could not get the alignment even close (kinda a gasser look) Pic with cragar eliminator's has 1"drop front coils and moog cc609 in back. Hope this helps
Also if you go to Federal Mogul/ Moog site and put info in they will show the different coils available for your vehicle here: http://www.fme-cat.com/
When I did my '65 Belair wagon some years ago, I used 409 springs in the back and lopped off a coil from each and it rode fine. You'd probably do well with new stock springs and call it done. The HD springs will raise it up even more, but will settle down in time. Bob
I bought new coils for a 65 Impala a few years ago. I had the option of stock or variable rate (I wnet with variable rate). The variable rate springs rode nice empty but got stiffer when I had a bunch of people in it so it didn't sit too low when loaded. I ordered mine 1" over stock and it looked great. My first car was a 68 impala i sold it last year. when I got it the ass-end sat up to high. I wanted it low so when took the coil springs out an aluminum horse shoe spacer fell out from on top of my springs. I put the springs back in without the spacers and it lowered my car about 2". I still have the spacers I dont need em you want them?
