New here and wasn't sure where to post this but if anyone could help that would be great. I am looking for any info about this Henry J, I believe it was a 1952. It used to run at Minnesota Dragways. Any help would be great thanks.

From the rear fenders it's a 51 or a recycled 51 tagged as a 52. Plus no trunk model which really points to a 51. Hope that helps a little.

The group of photos I found on the internet are from 1969-70 but I believe the one on the photo is September 1970. Also I believe you are right and that it's a 1951. I know the guy who used to own it like 20+ years ago, has 2 pictures of it in his garage and traded it for a 1970 z28 camaro that he runs up at BIR. The other day he was talking about it and how he should of never traded it, just wanted to see if it was still out there or whatever happened to it.

Thanks for posting the pic but I really hope that isn't the one I am looking for, looks like that one has a trunk. I see the MDRA sticker on it and tried to join that forum but for some reason it won't let me login on it. I'm thinking someone over there might know where it is.

That could be Bill Waddill's Henry J. Ran at Detroit with a twin-McCullough supercharged hemi from Flint, Michigan sponsered by Kustom Equipment. Bill was a real old time hot rodder, did Bonneville way back when, built some beautiful cars. The real deal. A quick Google finds this: http://www.henryjcars.com/henryjcars/hotrod1960/fullview.html

Thanks for the info but that too is not the car I am looking for as that one has a trunk and has the taillights on the rear quarter, the one I am looking for has neither. But that is one sweet henry also. I also forgot to mention that the photo I posted that I found on the internet had a caption that said "Turnquist's Henry J" maybe the name sounds familiar to someone? But I'm guessing that that is the guy who owned it before the guy I know owned it so probably wouldn't help me much.

Your Henry J also does not have a chopped top, as both of the provided link and photo have. Not saying it may not have been chopped since, but the earlier photo of Bill Waddell is definitely not your car.

Do some digging on www.henryjcars.com and see what you find.

Hard to tell if any of those are it but thanks for the link. I've also notice that the one I am looking for has no vent windows.

what did it run for a motor? I ran across an old J g***er a few years back. It was set up for a small block ford and auto trans. It was red and white, but there was purple paint underneath. It was a 51 also. had a square roll bar.... it was crude.

... looks like the car you are looking for had a straight axle with hairpins, the one I found had parallel leaf with a home built tube axle...

Sorry I haven't posted on this thread in a while but I found out some more about the car. It belonged to a guy with the last name Turnquist who lived in Anoka mn before the guy I know bought it for $500. It had a hilborn injected sb chevy I believe, the rear end was an old pontiac/olds rear that was solid mounted with no suspension at all in the back, tilt front end and was kind of set up like a funny car because you sat in the middle and the roll cage went by your shoulders. The guy I know who used to own it said he has some interior pics of it and time slips from it but they're in a box in storage. Said he would get them out one day and look at them. I'll post pics if I can scan them. As for the car it is rumored to be sitting at a junkyard somewhere here in Minnesota. Some people he knows believe they know which one it's at so I'm going to go look for it one of these days hopefully in the next month.

Well I found out some more about the car. Found one for sale on craigslist and sent a photo of the car asking if this is what his used to look like as the one he was selling was mostly in primer. While the car he was selling is not the one I am looking for he replied with this email.

"That is my old car! I owned it from 1980(I think) to 1984, I got it in trade on a 1940 Ford PU as a basket case and put it together again with a BBC /T400. Scariest ride I ever owned. An absolute ping pong ball down the track. I talked to the guy that built it at the Pantowners show (My club) and told him he had more guts than me to race that widow maker. I sold it to French lake auto parts and supposedly was then sold to a guy in Duluth and received a caddy motor. Alway regretted selling that car and have been looking for it ever since, not so much to drive it but for the lost history. I'd love to hear that something was actually done with it. Its been long gone from French Lake, a decade or more. I asked about any records or info of where it went and they did not and do not keep any of that info. Not much help at all actually and I know the family real well. I got it from John Kapsner nicknamed "Huntz" in St Cloud, but as it had no ***le I have no records either. I know it was a scary car with a Aluminum cover over the motor that would not hold BB shot much less motor shrapnel. The rear end was welded to plates which were in turn bolted to the ch***is. The trans motor plate was drilled for many bell housing bolt patterns and so many combo's were or could be used. It used a center steer system w a sprint car box. Probably high tech for its time. but the car would not p*** tech now. I wanted to build a street car out of it but my skills back then were not good enough to tackle that car with its racing mods/damage. The cowl was cut out for the injectors with a drastic engine setback as well as no firewall."

So it looks like the car is still out there somewhere. I see there is one for sale on craigslist right now in watertown with a caddy motor but I have not heard back from the guy yet. Good to know that it still might be out there. Will keep everyone posted if I find out more about it.

If you say Duluth, I would try to locate Kyle Smalley. He has a '53, and may know what one you're talking about.

I found someone that supposedly owns it but have not heard back from them in a long time. Anyone else know anything about this car?
