OUCH!! you guys are brutal!! NO we're NOT ex-minitruckers, NO we DON'T think we're Jesse F-ing James. Yes we DO know the difference between dolly and a dip stick, NO we DON'T build un-safe trash, Anyway now thats out of the way, the name is "Hellbent Hotrods and Kustom Kreations" we are at 2629 Prairie, between Byron center and Ivanrest. We've been here a year and a half, and yes our advertising ****s we just got signs a month ago, but that was the point of the shirts that obviously worked! No web site yet, soon I hope. Come by and see the shop before you judge.

    Thanks Mike.

  3. The best advertising around here is to do good work. This place is world wide, if you build something cool everyone will know about.Post some pics and give us some more info on the shop and yourself. What type of cars are you guys building? I might have to swing by there this week.

I don't have any real cool pics, but I tried to put up some pics of patch work I did but the files are to big. I'll try again later. (how might I make the files smaller, anyone?)

Not trying to bust your balls or anything BUT a year and a half in the business and you only have some photos of patch work to show??? Perhaps you have choosen the wrong name for your business?? Either that or your marketing/PR rep needs to get on the ball cuz unless you have proof/evidence that your a "hot rod and Kustoms shop" your really not going to get very far. Would you take YOUR car to a guy that has no photos to show of the cars he's done?? Maybe a name like "Patches R Us" would suit you better? :D

BTW, I did welcome you on your other post before I realized you do not have photos of actual rods or customs that you have done to show us. Please ignore my request for those photos now that I realize you don't have any.

I agree with Mike. There are a TON of wannabees out there doing butcher work. Kool names, Kool T shirts, Kool haircuts, and building **** cars.
If you are a real craftsman, you WILL become known! It takes time, but your work will speak for itself. The rest is just ********. Real builders shrug off criticism, and get back to work building great cars. Then the naysayers can eat their words. But those guys are few and far between. Mike has paid his dues, and has more than anyone elses right to express his opinion! If you are a craftsman, you can criticize other's work with more authority!

Not everybody here was trashing you.....Looks like you were accused, tried, convicted, and sentenced without being present at the trial. Everybody starts somewhere. Keep at it!!!

A person, no matter how talented, should NEVER criticize anothers work without seeing it for himself first and even then, one should thread lightly. I don't ever remember the true craftsmans on this board, the ones that I look up to and admire, ever thrashing someones work. In fact, the opposite is true, they usually try to give encourgement when they can. No good is ever accomplished in trashing someones elses talent, or lack of.

Constructive criticism is very different then trashing someones work. Remember our conversation at Autorama? I aksed for your opinion on something cuz I value your opinion and you gave me your opinion without trashing the actual work or idea involved. Thats what a true craftsman does.

Jake, I hear you on one count. It really gets to me when a shop or individual starts doing a job and doesn't have the ambition or talent to finish it. In my opinion that's one of the most depressing and agravating things that a customer can experience. He's committed to the builder but can't get any satisfaction. Ever take a half finished job to someone else? Most people won't take on a half finished job so you're left waiting out the first shop (can take months) or cut your losses and s**** the project. For the customer it's a frustrating situation.

Exactly, Denise...but a craftsman has an obligation to criticize another's work, when it comes down to building a car safely. As Mike said, there are a lot of butchers out there building dangerous, unsafe cars. I have also had the 'pleasure' of correcting some crude, unsafe modifications that others guys have done. I have no problem saying it out loud, I owe it to someone, perhaps to save his life. You can see bad welds, even in pictures, or an unsafe suspension modification.
When it comes down to styling, though, it's all personal taste. Then you need to be more diplomatic in what you say.

thanks for the compliments but i'll be the first to tell you i still have alot to learn. also thanks to all the folks who have PMed me and privatly told me they agree.

GEESH, what a waste of space  . OK...

i think what some of you are doing is reading too much into what i said. i was'nt saying these guys, in particular, ARE hacks. i simply stated my thoughts on how there seem to be so many so called shops popping up all over the place, many without much experience or a clue but claiming to have both. i did imply that this shop COULD be another one of those, but i did not say it WAS. i was making a broud generalization not specific comments about anyone in particular... except Skippy. i'm sorry if maybe i hit a little too close to home for some of you. ....now GET OVER IT!!!!

I agree...there are alot of butchers out there building dangerous, unsafe cars....gm...ford...and chrysler, with thousands of innocent people killed with their inept designs and manufacturing.........toyota may run them ALL out of business, if they don't get their **** together.

Alvin Lee (of Ten Years After)sang it best..."I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do."

Hey Stop using hack as a bad word! LOL As for their shop I think I am gonna rock over there and check em out. I am by no means great I just try to do the best I can I always have. Some people think they can build Normally they talk themselve up like no tomorrow. Skippy is a prime example The $30K truck is at trouts now and he and I and the new owner, are now cutting 95 percent of what happend to that poor truck. The fire wall needs to be totally redone. The body drop on it has to totally be redone. and the frame has hit the trash so the $30K truck got pitched basicly. So I am going to have to go with mike on his opinion of skippy as a person I get along with him but I would never let him touch anything I own.
