Thanks Bob, since the springs are new I think I will probably try the lowering blocks. I don't want this car to sit like Gravedigger when I set the body back on.
Great to see the conversation going! My frame is not boxed back where the original trans X-member is located. I've even thought of putting in some sheet steel between the frame and the member when I move it back because the frame is not parallel, but widens as it goes back. The "spacers" will allow me to move it back just a little bit more without having a big gap. i even thought of reversing it to make use of any additional space. If you'll look, you'll note that it is stamped steel and the "c" created by the stamping is facing the rear of the car. Swapping it would make it face forward.
Ohh boy this damb computer was constipated last night so this morning it was better and turned lose where I could upload so heres some White meat. I have never took any pics when I was building a car so on this one I started . The chevys are coming out of the wood work !! This is my baby so be gentle with your comments . No not realy have at it if something is wrong I can change easy now ! I would like to roll into the Travis County Expo Center.
I posted this last night but don't know what happened. Here is a bracket I built using 1 1/4 inch round tubing, with an extension for bolting the trans to it. Just in case you might want to just build a new trans mount.
Just caught this thread this morning, and can't keep my mouth shut any longer. You guys make me really MISS my 32 Chevy. Just wanted to show a few pics, and let you know a little about my chevy. I bougth it in 1977 and built it when not to many chevys were around. Lots of home made stuff, which I later changed to better stuff. Here are a few pics I scanned to the computer. If I can be of any help, let me know. I have lots of pics of the second redo, that I can scan and bring up if needed. See my profile for more pics. Pic1 when I first brought it home Pic 2 At York, PA in late 80's Pic 3 Chopped top and filled roof in winter of 91-92 redo. Listen to Terry! Be Gentle! There's some nice work there! Makes mine look kinda crude. But, she's MY baby so the whole family has been pretty accepting of her. Thanks for the pix Ghost. The one of the frame helps a lot too. I've been wondering as the parts are going on, how the exhaust is going to fit on that side? Guess that's another bridge for another time. but it isn't too early to think about!
I've reversed the eyes on the early chevy springs a few times and it gives approx. another inch of lowering. A local spring shop can simply reverse the arch on the springs. Removing a few of the leafs will also allow spring to flatten out a little for less arch and also soften up for a better ride. Paul
Hey oldman2, nice truck! I knew you would regret selling that 32 one day. Hope all are doing well! PJ
Here's a few and link to article on the build: http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/featuredvehicles/0705rc_1932_chevy_coupe/index.html
Did you "cut" the explorer rear or just put it in the way it was removed. They are "offset" so I wasn't sure if you shortened one side or just put it in as is. Thanks.
This is a friend's of mine 32 roadster in progress. Hand formed frame, etc. etc. Almost entirely hand fabricated short of the cowl and rear and a few other misc. parts. More pictures in my album's.
Nope. Just dropped right in place. It's got disc brakes (from 94 on I believe) which just happens to match the bolt spacing on the front discs. It worked out well. Just find rims with the proper back spacing and all is good to go.
Been working on thiss 33 5 window for five years now, no wood left in it. Should be running within the month.
Very cool N8B! I think sixes get overlooked all to often. That'll be an excellent ride for sure. Wish I had those skills!
I have been told that many times. It all relates back to my High school days when a friend and my self built a 47 austin of america with a 450 hp cad 6 dueces, first time out, lifted the front off ground passenger side came up higher, I aged a few years on that one ride. Twisted frame and severely stress welds so overkill has stuck with me.
Geeze Nailhead... your frame bracing is formidable! Did you fab the parts they look great. I just picked up a 30 3window coup project. It was a former drag car and the PO replaced a lot of the wood with steel.. and then welded the steel body bracing to the frame. About 1/2 of my frame is boxed and the interior is currently hollow so there is lots to do.. does any one have a favorite place to purchase replacement wood?
Been checking out your pictures of your '33 on you album. Looks great. Especially like how your rearend sits. Can you tell me where the rear springs/setup is from? Think that what I need on my '31. Thanks, Joe.
I used a Posie's Super Slide Rear Leaf Spring Kit #8021 and a mid 90's Chevy S10 two wheel drive 10 bolt rear end. The front end is a TCI coil over set up.
Aojo I did fab all my parts the reason the frame is so stout I had no structure in the body. So like building a house I wanted to start with a good foundation. I have been working on the floors and finding out how unsquare my body was even when the top was chopped it was uneven so back to the sawzall .Thanks for your kind words .I was told it was an old drag car. But I think maybe dirt track car they sure loved a cutting torch.
Does anyone run the stock '30 chevy front suspension and steering box? I was told mine is the original suspension but I haven't started to work on it yet.. heading up to LA this morning to check out a '30 being parted out... supposedly all the fenders are good and the seller has several doors, original frame, tranny and motor.. plus various sheet metal parts.. I'll take some photos of what is there and post the extras if anything looks worth while.
