They didn't change to a concrete surface until at least 20 years after these photos were taken!

Although the pictures don't show a lot of detail, I think that one of the cars was owned/driven by NASCAR modified legend Jerry Cook. I recall seeing the car at the 'National Parts Peddler' auction back in the mid-late 80s, after it had been converted into a "street car".

A little off topic but I still don't know why people like Dale Sr. when he first came on the scene he was the dirtiest roughest idiot out there. He dumped other drivers left and right. Wrecking people on the last lap is bullshit and he did it all the time. Just my opinion, and don't want a big drama thing on this great thread but had to say it. Sorry.

I'm going out on a limb here but....It's not Daytona or Pocono because there's no hash marks for lanes (I think Dover has hash marks but not sure). I'm gonna take a wild ass guess and say it looks like the South Boston VA that I remember.

Remember my remember not too good anymore. Denny Z

It's definetly Dover, this was 77 before they changed it to concrete. Was there, Geoff Bodine drove in relief of Maynard Troyer to win. Satch Worley in the Clarence Steakhouse Monza had everyone covered until he crashed with a lap car.

Thanx there leadfoot! I think you mean the red one, eh? I found a pix of a very similar car with a slightly different livery here.

Interesting photo. Looks like Joe Kelly in the 87 and Bob Weisenmyer in the 32A on the outside. I remember both these cars and drivers well. Both cars were primarily asphalt cars. The 87 was driven for a couple of years by Bob Weisenmyer. The 87 was a consistent top ten car on asphalt but never a winner. When Kelly started driving it they ran it on dirt and the car became a real contender and a winner. The 32A, prior to Weisenmyer driving it was a middle of the pack car at best on asphalt. When Bob drove it on dirt, it too became a winner. I cane remember the night he won at Flemington, PASSING Tas to do it......the place went nuts.

If I remember correctly, the white Monza No. 71 was driven by John Anderson, from either Ohio or Michigan. He ran thr RoC at Trenton once or twice, and some of the other superspeedway Modified events of the late seventies era.
There was also a Modified driver named John Anderson from New England; different guy. I think this Monza was built for, and raced in some sports car road races as well.

My brain hurts after the first 190 pages. I won't mention that I did it in only about 3 sittings. LOL

I've been trying to set a limit of 50 pages at a time, but it never seems to work!

  23. Is this the one where Troyer was down 6 laps by the time Bodine got in his car and back on track and, Bobby Lane in the 4 car came in 4th, highest ranking Long Island driver there that day and he wasn't running any aero package.
I was there also. Pete, we didn't take you that year but did the next year and the track was all done over then.
