flame thowers!!!

can any one help me out i have old school flame thowers on my caddy but they dont keep burning while car is ideing??? how do i do this? i see them at shows and on you tube how is it done????

 

I predict this will end badly.

 

I've seen a set of fuel injectors and a high psi pump used just up the pipe from the spark plugs. It was an epic flame thrower!

 

no it wont end badly i change the oil after every 2 times of lighting the flames so no worrys

it goes out because at idle there isnt enough unburnt fuel in the exhaust at idle.. for huge flame throwers you need to inject something in the exhaust.. propane, gasoline, diesel or kero, those will net ya what your looking for..

 

I'm guessing you run really rich, or you are killing dist. power and burning unburned fuel out the pipe. either way, if you inject fuel up the pipe- in the case with my caddy- gas, there is not enough oxegen left in the exhaust when the fuel through the engine is burned to consisently light gas. Think ether and a lighter. put your injectors close to the end of the pipe- I run Nos nozzles with 100 shot inserts- mine are opposite the plug in the pipe (you don't want to soak/foul the plug)- to blow the injected gas in a fan pattern out the tip I run 3 switches- it takes practice but now even my wife can do it. (also I run constant spark, I'm not sure it matters though) turn on spark, kill dist. power to make the little blue-ish flame, hit the injector sw. to blow fuel. the little blue flame is like the lighter- the gas injection is like the ether- once lit you can run it for as long as your paint, taillight lenses, etc will last. I can run 80 down the hwy mak'n fire.
I bought a home made dvd on ebay a few years back on how to use propane to make flames- probably the funniest thing I have ever seen- I was more comfortable with a 1 gallon fuel cell in my trunk (you can t into the fuel line but I wanted a separate supply) than with a bbq tank in my trunk!
You need a high psi/gpm fuel pump to push the fuel out the nozzles- the better the pressure, the better the atomization and frankly the distance the fuel will spray (bigger farther spray, bigger farther flames) Nos nozzles are not necessary, you can make "fuel sprayers" out of copper tubing or anything you can come up with. I saw a guy crimp the end of a copper tubing, and drill a small hole in the end so gas would stream out = long flames, cool but a little un-natural.
I'm sure there are old schoolers with better info than that but thats what I got- I just cant upload a pic right now for some reason.

Propane is easy, cheap and a little less dangerous than running gasoline. You can dress up a bbq tank to look cool! Just make sure you kill yourself or anybody else. I also highly suggest that you invest in a serious radar detector. Tossin' 6-foot flames on the highway at 80 in front of the po-lice will land you in the pokey real quick.

Some of the guys buy a NOS kit and use a port injector and propane as the fuel source for the ultimate flame throwers! Some with sucess, some not so much.........

Been there, Done That!!, Realized its more damage and harmful than fun. I too feel that this should take a turn towards the closed dead end lane. All this will do is get you in trouble and ruin alot of respect that we, the Hot Rod crowd have left. We want to set good examples, NOT Hells chariot running down the road!

#2 a 65 caddy is made out of steel not plastic like the rice
#3 flames are cool and about the most old school hot rod thing there is left!

Your still screwing up the engine.

Wrong! Whats cool about destroying an engine? and IMO it's not "Old School" either.

Oh and BTW it's Injected not Ingected....I'm just saying.
