i have a complete convertible top ***embly for a 1939 pontiac , not positive but i believe it will fit 37 38 39 40 chevrolet and pontiacs bodies. does anyone have any correct information on this, this top will be for sale but i would like to know what it will fit first.
I could be wrong...but, I'm not sure chevy made a convertible in 1939. Although, it would be a killer way to "convert" a '39 Chevy coupe. But what do I know, I mess with early Fords .
I don't think it will work. The smaller chevrolet body in 39 didn't have a convertible. The other GM convertibles in 39 were the bigger body, (Pontiac, Olds, Buick, Cad, LaSalle) If you advertise it, I would advertise it as a 39 Buick, olds, Pontiac, Cad LaSalle top, not Chevrolet.
Just so you know Chevy did make a 39 vert but not in the states for some reason they made them in Australia and even beter they are right hand drives
True, but the aussie bodies were built by another body company, (Holden, I believe), which are completely different than the American Fisher Body, which would still make this part not for Chevys.
does anyone have dimensions that i could check and see if it fits a 37-40 chevy? maybe it could be modified...
I thought you had the 37-40 chevy. it can definitely be modified to fit. They modify top frames for chopped verts. You would have to, at the very least, narrow the bows and header. That would be fairly easy, it wouldn't change the folding mechanism geometry. If it needs to be shortened (the side rails), That is where things are going to get interesting. Mock it up in wood so you can get the geometry right before you start cutting the metal.
Pontiac converts (and I believe Olds too) are the only smaller body shell shared with Chev. Buicks and Caddys no, if that helps any. I too thought Chev. didn't make any converts in '39, but with those bows and a set of Cabriolet w/s posts, who's to say? Brian
