So I'm picking up a stock '66 Buick 401ci Wildcat 445 (325hp/445 ft lbs, 10.25:1 comp). I'm putting a Offy dual quad intake on it with 450cfm Edelbrock carbs (I know the Offy intakes aren't the best but that's what I'm using) and I'm gonna fab up some fenderwell headers for it. I was thinking to balance out the whole setup, I should convert the distributer to electronic internally, and do a cam swap to use more of that fuel/air I'm adding and give it a choppy sound. What would be a good cam choice to go with? I've seen a few grinds out there... -Dean
Hi Dean, "no comment" on the offy! But cams are funny. I've had 3 different nailheads on a dyno, 2 with W-30 cams and one with a GSCA club grind. What I got out of it is in order to get anything out of a cam in a nailhead you have to do some port work. My 425 with a W-30-12 stock heads roller rockers really did not make the power I thought it should, and it looked like it lost power on the low end (coulda used more timing ) vs a WAY milder cam with an engine (425) with bigger valves and stock rockers. My strongest engine is a 401, w-30-10 cam (232-232) roller rockers, single 4bbl and extrude honed intake (stock) + heads. Ted Nail
A Christmas present this year was this cam and all the good stuff to go along with it................... This is for my 401 with six 97'S and very light port work, other wise stock. I don't have the motor running yet but this set up was put together for my car. Cam is a Schneider..................
