Just came in the mail yesterday. They're calling it the third annual Nostalgia Weekender. Dunno what happened to the 2nd annual.
Same DJ that was at the first one. Ol Skool Rodz Magazine. Bo Huff. 3 bands. Drag racing, Pinstripers, Rat Rod Reunions (whatever that is)
$10 per person per day, $30 for a 3 day pass for vehicle and 2 people, $50 for a 3 day pass and camping.
Doesn't say if there is a cut off year or not.
So who wants to go take the place over for the weekend?

Did anyone go last year? Was it a bust or what? I went the first year and had a ball and then immedeately after the event it sounded like everything went to shit. The last I heard they were haveing lawnmower drags at what was supposed to be a hot rod show.

Is this the nostalgia race that was in MaG-Neto Magazine? There were a couple of clubs that built $1000. cars to race at the strip and they were Rats. It sure sounded like a lot of fun.

We were there the first year and raced our asses off. It was a blast.

Does anyone know if the track is still open? I thought they were gonna shut it down and plant corn. Thats just the rumor I heard. I didn't go last year cause my son was just born the week before.

I'd think about making the trip if its gonna be good(lots a hambers)

    I'm gay?
    Lemme put it this way.
If the fags from Queer Eye looked at me they would say there is nothing they could do.
If they looked at you, with your Berkensmuck sandles, polo shirt and kaki shorts they would say "with a lisp" He's perfect just the way he is!
Don't you have some nice car to fuck up with billet and tweed? hehe

Two different places. Close to each other, but totally unrelated. The "South Butler" nostalgic drags event is at the old Savannah Race track that was opened from 1957 - the late 60's and re-opened a couple of years ago for a few races a year.

The lawn mower racing was at another place down the road from the original track.

I went the first year, had a blast. Good trip there, it was surrounded by lots of country. A fair amount of people showed up,and some good bands too. I thought that they were also planting corn fields over the strip, and had new owners. Could be fun again.

It is North of I-90 between Syracuse and Rochester. Nearest town is Weedsport if you need a room.

    Slim,
45 miles east of Rochester, NY to Rte. 89 South.
South Butler is about 5 miles south of Rte. 104 on Rte. 89.
Don't blink, ya might miss it. :)

The track is 1/10th mile, if I remember correctly.

The old South Butler track was 1/4 mile, but they only used 1/10 mile both because the blacktop was bad on the end, and to keep speeds down.
It's 2 blacktop lanes running through a hay field, and as far as I know they have no plans to plow it under.
This new place is around the corner from the old track. A couple years ago, they were having fund raisers to try and get money to build a track.
I have no clue if they put a strip in yet or not.
I'm going to give the promoter a call and find out.

    Here's a few pics of S.Butler...............

    First, the entrance :

Next, a couple of pics of the strip itself. Only thing changed since the 50's is the Christmas tree instead of a flagman and the gray in my hair. Even the asphalt is the same as was laid in '57. Not too shabby, considering our winters. Ya can't get much more old timey than this.

Heres one from two years ago. By the way East Coasters theres going to be another real nostalgia race in Maine this year. I believe the date is August 5, but I may be wrong. It'll be at an old airfield and supposed to have lax safety regs. We're planning on building a race car specific for the event hopefully the Stumblin Idles will bring the Boston Shitbox out of retirement for round two!.

The show is at a new location: just around the corner from the original site--South Butler Dragstrip and Motorsports Park--Slyburg Road. It will feature jalopy drag racing on dirt, a huge-ass flame show, live rock-a-billy bands, DJ Wolfman Jerry Burst, burn outs, pin striper and rat rod reunions, AA fuel cars, gassers and more. Proceeds from pinstriper auction to benefit the new blacktop track. There was a Second Nostallgia Weekender, however, it was not widely publicized. This was due to the fact that I was in the hospital for about 6 months and had very little time to plan the show. Contact me for more info. Joe Reese 315-776-4925
