My pal wants build a inline 8 for a truck project. Looking for cams, 4 pot manifolds etc. Might be a long shot but... Here's the concept I drew him so you know idea what were going for.
a friend down here (ventura ca) has one in a 2 door sedan. the things are so crazy, like 3 feet long. he wants some go fast stuff too, but it looks like it will have to be custom made. a while back, there were some EDMUNDS stuff on ebay, but it is few and far between, good luck tp
call isky for a cam,,,, they might just have one they have never gotten rid of anything since back in the day so you never know what they might have hiding in the old warehouse
Know Edmunds made a 2-2bbl intake and a finned head for them. Another HAMBer has both of them, he snagged em before I could from Vintage Speed. Pretty much the same on the outside throughout production. Same stroke, different bore. Cylinder walls should be able to take an .060 without too much hassle. Stock, they are low compression, low RPM motors. Wouldn't rev it much past 3700-4000 RPM. The "Hi-Compression" head from off Auto cars upped CR's from 6.8:1 to 7.6:1. Bore it .060 over, shave the head, smooth the ports, build a custom multi-carb intake, and fab up a set of exhaust pipes. I eventually will do all of the above to mine.
Autocars huh? hmmm...have to check into that one. Cool idea! Pipes are the easy part. Might have to make an intake. We saw a Buick at Paso one year running WAY too many carbs and he went apeshit. He lives down in San Digeo, so I'll see what he can find out. I know zip about the inline B.O.P engines.
I have a setup on my 1936 Pontiac straight 8 it took 10 years of looking to find it don't know of anyone else who has an installation like mine. will check into posting pictures of it soon. It consists of an Edmunds dual carb setup and finned aluminum head. If anyone out there has the same setup drop me a line. I am also looking for info, from possibly some oldtimer, on Eddie Edmunds I have been researching him for 2 years now and would like to write more than a one page article about his life (I have everything thats available on the internet and in hot rod pioneers) Thanks
Can't find anything for big ole Poncho motors. BTW, an interesting fact, they idle at 450 rpm in gear!
My friend is building a 29 sedan with a pontiac straight 8, he found some old speed parts on the net... dual Edmunds manifold, Edmunds high compression head in death stock... Here some pics, first is after painting and second now in the rebuilding..
