Hey thanks for the info. Would anyone recommend a stock type harness, or go with a Painless, American Autowire, ROn Francis universal harness??

I've installed harnesses from American Autowire , Painless , Ron Francis and I'm now installing a harness from Centech in a '50 Shoebox - in my opinion , they all go in very well . Just take your time , be patient & you'll be fine . Do I have a favorite ?? No , to be honest , not really . Just get one that's color coded and (each wire is) marked & you'll do just fine .

  5. I used a Painless on my '50, I got no complaints about it. I also replaced all the bulbs and sockets to be on the safe side.

Rebel seems like good stuff and he's a member, I use EZ which is basically a Painless clone, which is basically a GM block clone.

Are you staying 6 volt or switching to 12 volt. If 12v you can use about any harness....but for 6v the original type is best. 6v requires heavier gauge wire.
I just put a new original type harness in my F-1, it was sooo easy. Got it from Macs...

well its still 6 volt, and i would like to change it over to 12v while im at it. Im just thinking because its gonna be my daily driver and if i want to do any upgrades it will already have the right electrical system. thats my 2 cents! HAHA

Check out Mac's for a high quality original cloth wrapped harness. It will be heavier gauge wiring for 6 volt. You have the option of converting to 12 volt.

I went with one from Mac's for my '51 Merc. They outsource from another company. The quality was top notch. It was an exact reproduction of the original. They probably aren't the cheapest, but well worth it in my opinion. Check them out.

Just email Glenn33 and he will help you get the right harness that you will need . If you have any problems he will help you thought the process . All his harnesses are AMERICAN MADE too ! The prices are the best around . No other wiring harness company will give you the service that Glenn and his staff will from Rebal Wiring ! Glenn will also tell you everything you will need to change over to a 12v system . I also have a 49 & 50 Fords tudors and a 55 Ford . When I rewire them , they will ALL be Rebal wiring harness . American made from a HAMBer . You can't go wrong with that !

thanks for all of the input! i really appreciate it. i have a question though, i looked at Macs wiring kit which looks really nice because it has all the connectors and what not to match the factory parts. Kind of looks like a "plug and play" type kit. Now if i got a Rebel 9+3 kit, how do i connect everything properly, like the dash wiring, guage cluster, light bulb sockets etc.? i dont need the OEM look of the MACS kit, so im just looking for what will be the easiest and still let me upgrade later on with things like a nice stereo system with an amp or two. thanks again for all the help everybody

If you're looking to use original-style connectors to connect to your lights & sockets here & there , just look into buying a bunch of solder-on connectors used on old British cars and bikes . The connectors are called "LUCAR bullets and sleeves" , and they hook right up to factory-style Ford stuff . You solder the "bullet" onto the end of your wire , then use the sleeves (available in single , double , triple and even quad) to connect 'em all together .

(Trying to clarify for ya) The bullets that you solder on , look right like the Ford (silver-colored) connectors on your factory harness . The sleeves , are just that - hollow sleeves that connect 2 (or more) wires together , just as factory . I've used plenty of them on misc. non-british cars , and have installed literally hundreds on British stuff at our (british car resto) shop . You can get them through Moss Motors , Victoria British or the guy at British Wiring (in Bally , PA) has them at a reasonable price too - they're in his online catalog at :
    http://www.britishwiring.com/CAT12_15.PDF
Look under "bullets and snap connectors"to see them
    .

I used Rebel. I was a first timer and it was straightforward. Best part about it was the tech support. If I didn't catch them the first time, I would get a return call and the took no less than a dozen calls from me.

I used an EZ harness for my 50, which was eazy to install and has done well for the last 3-4 years. If i were to do it again I do think I would use a Rebel harness (support the HAMB Family)...

i used a painless kit on mine and i made a smart move by getting the multi-colored kit.. cant tell you how hard it would have been if just looking at the fine print on each wire
