Its amazing that there's sooo much to do on such a lil car. You rock at so far what you've achieved on this thing!
Inspiration! You are pure inspiration! So great that you work on the car and keep us all posted on the progress! Thank you very much!
Hahaha... love that quote. The sewing job looks to have come out well, everything looks pretty darned parallel.
Fabrication work looks really nice and clean! and you gotta love the original car...you're doing an awesome job. What thickness of material did you use for the floor? I like the no rolled beads look alot. Steve W.
Thanks for all the kind words, they keep me going! Dubbzilla - I used 16 guage, a little more difficult to work with but strong.
I'm no expert but my firewall doesn't have much give due to the trans tunnel and brake cylinder box. Had it been a bigger piece, I would have put some beads in it and it will probably end up with additional support inside as I install a heater. I thought beads on the floor would be overkill since I had a grid support for it to lay on every 8 inches. The only time I can think that Henry used beads was when there was little to no support below? But again, I'm no expert.
Appreciate the input....I have alot of square tubing in my subfloor too, so I'll follow your footsteps. Thanks again, Can't wait to see more updates!
OK Danny - just for you! Bath Time! Spent the morning in the house washing the crank, pistons, con rods, and flywheel while waiting for it to warm up. Then I headed for the shop! Cleaned and cleaned then I taped it up! Primer and paint Needed to primer and paint the roof edges before the roof insert. Primer is too expensive to waste these days so... Canvas installed - sounds like a drum so I guess it's right? Cotton torn along the edges - not cut - cause I read that somewhere so it must be true? Spent a good amount of time feeling to make sure I had the same thickness. Started on the top but ran out of steam and felt like I was messing it up so I decided to stop for the day. I need to make sure it is straight. I thought it was little ironic that the song playing on the radio was The Fabulous Thunderbirds and "Tuff Enuff". I think Tuffy made a request! Anyway it was a productive day!
Thanks guys, I was at a run! Skotz - that brought a tear to my eye. I feel the same about you! Danny your on that list too! You all have always answerd my phone call questions.
Keep up the the great work!! and it's cool to see that your not scared to tackle anything on the car.....Im rebuilding a 3 window also check it out if you get a chance.. CB
Crafty, I follow your 32 Build. You do some awesome work. I wish I lived closer and could watch you cast some stuff. Had to get Tanya to help me with the top. Getting the stripes straight was a nightmare. Even now, standing at the front there is an optical illusion and you have to move to the left or right for it to look straight. It's not perfect but I am happy for the $90.00 I invested. Got the aluminum tracks bent and drilled. If it doesn't blow off on the way to Austin, I'll know I did it right! Does anyone know where I can order some black molding (color key)?
This build could be made into a movie, I think maybe even two, Ron sounds like he was one heck of a cool guy and has an amazing life story, then we get to Kisam and the current day and her story. This is just fascinating the life of this car, if Tuffy could talk he would have one hell of a story. I wonder what his history was before Ron. Maybe something mundane like being bought new by FDR or something. If I was a car I would wish to be Tuffy, not many are loved as much. Some long years from now some one will be redoing him again and looking at and for pictures of him, it would be a cool thing to fit a history box into this car, just a small box hidden in him, a time capsule so he can tell his story. I have a feeling this car is going to be around for a long time. I love that striped roof, very cool.
Thanks everyone! Francisco, I couldn't agree more. I feel very blessed and consider Tuffy a gift! Update... Finally got to delete this list and start a smaller second one. Sure took a long time to get here. More paint Put Hot Rod Granny to work on the Hemi head tubes Back to the roof. I had planned to screw this down so I could adjust the height, but the first POS screw snapped off, you know where it was made so I'll leave that alone! So I used nails. Couldn't find any black color key so I gave up and got the clear and some SEM's Paint. I was very impressed with it. Took a few hours of patience. Tanya cleaning up the sealer. Total price ended up around $115 and I am happy with it.
