Has anybody successfully run Port-O-Walls on their ride with radial tires? I know that they are not reccomended for radials, just curious as to why? I want some bad, just not in a position to buy new tires at the time. Thanks in advance.
do a search its been covered many times... p.s. they look like shit and never hold their shape against the tire.
i have had no luck with them on radials...the last a few hundert miles and then normally blow off on the way to a cruise in at about 100 mph!!!!
I'd look into making your own white walls. A few guys on here did it on radials and it turned out pretty damn good. The main reason no port o walls on radials is the smaller side wall, the overall rounder design, and more sidewall flex. That being said, I know a guy who has ran them on his radials for 2 years with no issues
I wondered about that more than anything. Do they just pinch between the bead and rim? Anything at all to secure the outer diameter of the whitewall?
Port-O-Walls do work on Radials. BUT you have to prep and clean the bead of the rim and blackwall tire first. Also, the 15 x 3" WW Port-O-Wall seems to be more difficult then the 1 7/8" WW. Radial tires flex in the sidewall, which causes the Port-O-Walls to flap and slip off. That's why they are not recommended for Radials. There is no guarentee that they will work but out buddy has them on his truck and they are staying.
i tried many types of glue and nothing worked. i think i spent more money trying to get them to stay on than a pair of bfg would have cost.
The cement doesn't work. Radials Flex Ports don't they break the bond. The Port should sit with the biggest ring on the bead side flush with the lip of the rim. Make sense? When you mount them nothing but that last biggest ring should be showing. If it moves on you, break the bead and retry. Rubber mallets work too.
If anything, they'll need to be vulcanized on...retreaders used to do this all the time, but don't know if there are any retreaders around anymore... R-
I had success with a set on 14 inch rims.I failed with larger 15 inchers.I think i would have been successful on the 15s with a little more experiance. I kept them on the car one season and then removed. Good luck...
I've owned Diamondbacks for many years...they never yellow and they balance perfectly, I wouldn't have any other kind...having said that and wanting to give equal opportunity, Coker is an Alliance vendor on this site... R-
