Does anyone have any tuning guidance for a one barrel carb? I am getting a lot of backfires when shifting. trimmed the idol, rebuilt the carb but I know very little about tuning carbs other than setting the idle screw. the Carb is a basic Rochester that came with the truck (1966 C-10). Thanx Trucker
Check for vacume leaks, both in the advance and the intake manifold, carb and head side. Theres not much too them old carbs.
What's the state of tune on the rest of the engine? New or good plugs that are correct for the application and correctly gaped? Wires in good shape? Points in good condition and gaped correctly or with dwell set correctly? Condenser bracket tight? Cap and rotor in good shape? Vacuum advance working right? Timing set right? On the carb Did you set the float level for the application? Are all of the other adjustments made correctly? Especially the linkage adjustment on the accelerator pump? As Choptopdoc suggested, check for vacuum leaks
All, Thanx for the advice. I think the problem is with a vacuum leak or the intake manifold. Plugs, wires, condenser, rotor and cap all good. Intake is in rough shape and may have leak. Has a JB Weld repair done to a crack. No money to replace the intake. May have have to find an intake in a junk yard. thanx again Trucker
