Guess I should have known better- but when we first discussed going out on the road back a few months ago a wicked BLIZZARD was the last thing on my mind! Driving into the storm today was a rude awakening that shorts and sandals were a really poor clothing choice. The first stop of the day made it even more clear when the first arctic blast hit my skin- WHOA!!!! Then after driving behind a semi truck that was being blown off the highway sideways I realized I needed to park it for the night and I WOULDN'T be sleeping in the van as planned. Checked into the room and just in time as the blizzard hit Amarillo, TX full force and they started shutting down the highways. The news showed people all through the area trapped by snow. Going out for some dinner was a REALLY bad idea! But made it back in one piece. Just now a new Camaro tried to drive through the parking lot in front of my room and had to do a Top Fuel burnout to power through the snow! Was wait for the engine to BLOW!!!
So, just wanted to share a little what I saw today in the middle of the Storm!

Adventure of the day is getting cars moved with last nights snow leaving more than a 12-inch drift around each car. Some had an easier time than others. Not looking forward to attempting it myself. Will actually put shoes and pants on today just in case!

  7. Ah that's just a dusting...when you start measuring drifts in feet not inches then it's getting serious. No Camaro can make it in a real blizzard :D

Well it has been an unusual year for snow. And I imagine it gets real cold feeling down there in TX with all that white stuff hanging around. Guess that storm is going straight across this time and is not going to come up here to the northeast. That has not been the case though this year. Pic attached of my driveway. Those markers are 40 inches high! Don't know where you are heading Jim but don't come this way....lol.

    Hahahaha!!!
Sorry Jim, cant help but laugh. I guess a 3 inch snowfall is a big deal to someone who has worn flip-flops every single day for the past 10 years....
Hardly worth even talking about to the rest of us out here in the real world tho :D

    Ah. You stopped in Amarillo!

Yeah, things around here are a little sketchy. Last night was no fun either. I had to drive home from school 15 miles away at 8pm in white-out conditions. I, too, followed a semi truck on the way home.

What kinda car are you driving?

School is cancelled and I have nothing better to do.. I could pop by and look at a nice car. :D

Nothing wrong with flip flops in the snow....its invigorating. Hope the best for you....easy on the brakes and on the gas pedal...unless your cutting figure 8's in the parking lot....sigh...if only everyone learned to drive on this stuff.

Jim who'd of thought you would get snowed in in Amarillo Texas! youre disc. sounds like a sheen fron the movie Fargo! Seriously pack a blanket in the van, that way if you do break down, you won't freeze to death. Saved me once when my pickup broke down on the NYS thruway in Feb.

The bag I took in the room DIDN'T have shoes so I had to get in the van this morning through the SNOW in sandals- and then while standing in 2 feet of snow the locks were frozen and I couldn't get the door open! Finally got it and in the van and started it up- took about 10 minutes before any heat came out and then had ho back through the drift without getting stuck.
All day the roads off the highway were pretty bad and did a lot of sliding around. After 10 hours of driving today finally within an hour of the final destination at almost midnight. Get set up for the show tomorrow and let the weekend begin! So what's fun to do at night in Kansas City?

LOL you must be related to a friend of mine who hit the Chicago Boat show in mid winter in sandals and shorts and tropical shirt a couple of years ago. He froze his *** off that week.

Stay safe Jim and watch out for the guys who can't drive on slick roads in that area which is a hell of a lot of them.
